Class of March 2013 Part 43
We could call ourselves DayDreamers ( as I feel more asleep during the day than I am at night!!! Just 3 hours last night, total bust!
Duff, will be sending positive thoughts your way to divert the worst of Erika, have plenty of things on standby to keep yourself occupied, do you knit or draw? Maybe help the kids build a Lego City!!
Really have to get my ass in gear and get myself organised, I have it clean the house today, finish organising my packing ( trying to lighten my load, but keep adding stuff!! ) my hotel has wifi but I'm not too sure how accessible it is so no idea how often I will be around after Saturday.

Yup, guess who's house is right smack in the middle of Erika's "cone of terror!" Almost all models lead right over my house
It's kinda tough because jokes are all over fb and everywhere else - about how Floridians prepare for hurricanes by buying liquor and all that c**p; and all the jokes/comments people are making about "yeah, we're prepared fridge full of beer..." I know it's juvenile but it triggers something in me. At any rate, I had lunch with a dear friend from church today and she said "I kind of like storms, it's nice to hunker down with the family and play monopoly and other games, tell stories and just spend time together." That made my heart feel good and reminded me of when I was kid and we were homebound during blizzards - helped to redirect my thinking from "Party time!" to "family time."

Good morning Marchers from a grey windy Paradise. People south of us have had a dreadful time with the rain but we are lucky here, all we can complain about is being soggy.
Duff that is so weird to me reading about the tornado parties. Even allowing for the way I used to drink I find it beyond crazy that people would have drinking parties when they may well lose the roof of their houses or the whole house. I mean what happens when you have to get yourself and other people out of where you are so that you can assess the situation? I dunno, maybe I'm an innocent but I cannot for the life of me understand that.
The very last thing I would do in a bushfire or flood is drink.
Anyway Duff don't be swayed by their crazy and it's probably a good idea to stay off FB too.
I slept ok last night, I hope it's improving for the rest of you too.
Have a good day peeps.

I just checked the storm reports and it does look like you will get the worst of it Duff, I'm sure you will be prepared for it. I think it may be easier this time without the threat of hangovers too!11899923_419597331567009_2724012263397091111_n.jpg This is the last one down here, 10 years ago this week, I wasn't back in the area yet, so I got to miss it.
Marcher, I find it amazing when I see people try to avoid dealing with stuff like storms but it does happen - not unlike the way we used to use alcohol to avoid living. Happy to hear you had better sleep.
Duff and Budd, I'm keeping you both in my thoughts for keeping safe from the storm.
Toots, I hope you have a lovely trip.
Dad, you sound good.
Life going well here. 36 of us went on a schooner yesterday for a two-hour sail :-). It was lovely sailing weather and we had a great time!

Marcher, the hurricane party culture does seem preposterous but hurricanes differ from tornadoes in that we have days to prepare and watch for it. Generally, schools and businesses end up closing and there's a certain level of fear/excitement in the air. Then the storm itself can last a few days depending on the speed its traveling. But yeah, I can't imagine dealing with the aftermath hung over.
I recognize that storm, Budd! Katrina. Such a pretty name for such a nasty storm.
I'll keep you all posted over the next few days!!

Now it looks like Erika will visit me first, Hopefully it will stay as a tropical storm and not gain any strength, I am ready for it though, have plenty of supplies if the power goes away for a day or two.
No, they don't, I'll keep a close eye on Max though, sometimes he disappears for a day, I'll try to keep him inside until it passes.
It's a different outlook here compared to Duffster's area. Here, unless it's a category 2 or stronger there's not much panic. There will be plenty of booze filled parties around the island.

Good morning Marchers from a sunny Paradise. Duff, Joy, Ken take good care of yourselves in this stormy weather, Ken I hope you have Max well in hand.
I'm looking forward to a super-quiet weekend this weekend, it's been a busy time of late and now that I'm a month past the car accident, Mr M's heart attack and the big exhibition, I am completely ready for some downtime.
Have a good safe weekend all.
