Pixie - Welcome to the August class!

Zufrieden - I sure hope you're right. I'm such a discombobulated mess anymore. I dunno how much is alcohol has made me stupid or just lazy? Or both? Or maybe I'm just getting that way as I get older? Good night I miss my old sharp, together self.

beerbgone - great job on day 1

Hey guys and gals, in a few hours it'll be 6 days. Gotta say, as much as I've been attempting to quit lately, it's making these early days way easier to get through. It's a little more "normal" to be sober for extended periods.

I have to go visit family's this weekend. I have the opportunity to make it an overnight trip, but think I'll just head for the day, and stay sober "so I can drive home" Plan.

Good to see familiar names. Keep going!

Allie - I'm kinda with you. I don't think I'll find it a real struggle to keep it together until probably Friday night.

Welcome, Nerina!

Good job on the lemonade, Retread.

I was somewhat productive this evening. Did some grocery shopping; tried to get some fairly healthy food. Replacing my recent Coke habit with some flavored seltzer water. Sipping on some cranberry lime seltzer now. Came home from grocery shopping, did some dishes, set the coffee pot, cleaned litterboxes, went through some mail, and I'm now relaxing a bit.

So, I had some pineapple with my meal tonight... holy hell it burned my stomach initially, just for a few seconds with each bite... but still. I'm thinking my stomach isn't quite recovered from the weekend after all. I'm trying to just stay focused on doing this for me and my health.

Hey all. I've been looking over some of the older threads since I'm new here and I'm sure this question has been asked, but I'm really having a hard time looking at the screen right now so I'm just going to ask here so I'm sorry. Does anyone have any advice on how I can deal with the sobriety induced migraines? I am on day 4 and they are debilitating. I'd hide in a dark room all day but I have to work
Also: it's so great to see everyone here supporting each other. I hope this is the month for me and everyone else as well.

Have you ever tried prescription migraine meds?

AllieKat, I've never tried them. I've never had a use for them really. I don't normally get headaches at all!

They work pretty well. I have migraines once or twice a year. It's worth the time to go and see a doctor to get some I think.

Hi, Merry Recluse! I had a headache almost every day for the first 15 days or so and it usually came on in the evening. I found that lots of water, very little caffeine during the day, naps in a cool dark room, ibuprophen, and baths with epsom salt helped. I do get migraines, so at one point I did have to take my migraine medicine. If they persist, I would go see your doctor.

It's the weekends that cause me problems because I know I don't have to get up for work. During the week I feel like I have it all together and then the weekend comes along. Last weekend I made it all the way to Sunday and then the pool happened and my husband bought beer. I had told him last Monday that I didn't want to drink for a while so I am kind of hurt by him doing that. I feel that it was disrespectful. I never told him he couldn't drink but in my opinion he was blatantly disregarding my wishes. He knew if he bought beer I would drink it and didn't care at all about it. Obviously I made the choice on my own to drink it but had it not been provided to me I would not have gone out looking for it. Am I wrong to think that it was wrong of him to do that?
AllieKat - you are doing so well..you understand the triggers and your weak spots... with regard to your husband... maybe he doesn't realize you're serious this time, have you ever said you were quitting to him and then relapsed? i know i have done so many times over the past 22yrs with my hubby that this last time I said,, I am not saying I am quitting, watch my actions and you decide if i am sincere. today is Day 14 for me... i dont think he is sabotaging you but he may not believe he has to quit because you are and you said it yourself..you picked up the beer, even tho he brought it...it is early and the situation is rough... maybe ask him to hold off for a week or two until you have more resolve.. talk to him - it might help both of you. If he rejects the suggestion and brings beer, then be prepared ahead of time & bring your own something in a can so your hand is occupied and you don't do the knee jerk habit thing & think you need to grab his beer can. just some thoughts...

Good night everyone, so glad to read and meet the newcomers... i am sooo grateful i found SR last week, you guys are making all the difference in the world for me..while i am staying sober for me, i am finding i don't want to let you down either and that is a very positive trigger to keep going. Happy Wednesday to everyone tomorrow, hang in there.. read and post whatever it takes to carry you thru to your next day...I get to clean house and go shopping. big bad trigger for me... like coming home from work...always stopped at store on the way to walmart and picked up something to knock back in parking lot... ugh did i really admit that? i am determined to overcome that habit too. and avoid convenience store by taking the long way around to walmart and make it thru day 15 tomorrow..
sweet dreams and hopefully no nightmares or headaches for anyone tonight....

Hi all, I just woke up. My doctor gave me some mild benzos to get through the worst of the detox and I decided to take 1/4 of one tonight since I was really miserable. It put me to sleep, so I guess that was better than craving all evening. I'm glad I had that but I don't plan to use it much, just during the first couple of weeks when things get really hard. I don't like using benzos but I know if I am careful with them it will be fine.

Now I'm sitting in bed reading all the posts here. Congrats to everyone who got through the day without picking up a drink or your substance of choice. You rock! On to day 4 for me!

Day 4 will start for me tomorrow. So far, I haven't had any real cravings. I think the shock and shame and roiling emotions of Saturday night are taking up too much room for desire for alcohol at the moment. I know it will come back, though, and soon my AV will be louder than my regret for that night... I just need to be ready for that. I haven't really sat down and made a plan, even though that is the moderators' must coveted tool for sticking to sobriety. I'm not sure why. I think I just fear that making a plan gives me one more thing besides sobriety to fail if I screw up. I'm not sure that really made much sense. Don't mind me!

I'm glad everyone is going strong so far for August! We can keep this up.

Hi everyone, I didn't take the time to read all of this thread, but I'm here because of a relapse on Sunday. Here's to another hour sober! And one after that, and one after that, and pretty soon we'll all have another 24 hours sober!
