I love that quote Daria! You sound busy, which we all know is good, but try to keep getting some time for yourself here and there for balance. I know I need it!

Scram- good luck with OP. And 6 days is awesome, and you should be proud
Of that's. Numbers, dates, and milestones have always strengthened my resolve -- like, why would I want to stop now? Good for you !

Ditzy & tooshabby-- my daughter is a senior in hs and wants to be a teacher so I must not be presenting it too poorly! I'm sure she doesn't relate my drinking to that, and sees it as a stable job doing something that you enjoy and makes a difference. I am definitely ready to change careers or go into another aspect of education outside of the classroom.

Ditzy - my dog was 15 and blind for about 2 years before we put her down last month. She was managing it pretty well- with our help.

Day 8 here. Feeling strong, had a good sleep and woke up feeling positive about my big plan.

I found this before and slightly amended it to fit me. I like it alot and have wrote it in my journal. I have a huge isolation problem so it spoke to me alot. Thought it might be of use to some of us.

Do not isolate:

The problem with isolating is you get such bad advice

Don't let a sick mind try to heal a sick mind. It is better that we listen to others and follow a recovery program that has been proven to work. If you allow your self consciousness to make you stay at home and miss support meetings or therapy sessions, you will have only yourself to guide you. If you think you can stay sober by avoiding being with anyone or going anywhere, you are just fooling yourself. Eventually, if you just isolate, you will figure out how to use again by yourself.

Be humble. It's O.K. that you can't heal yourself by yourself; get to a meeting today, call your therapist, talk to your SR friends. Go to SMART chat.

Halt the urge. Reaching out for help is a show of strength, not weakness.

I'm sorry for all these individual posts, it's the only way I can reply to posts this darn phone.

Slept so great last night. I'm sure this thinking will be done within hours, but right now I can't imagine why I ever want to drink when I feel this good without it. My first counseling session this morning. She is more of a grief counselor than addiction (my dad passed away in January), but just hoping for a comfortable rapport and some good guidance in how to start finding some peace, which will ultimately help with my sobriety as well.

Hope everyone has a great, Sober day

Thanks for the quote BBB.

Great vibes going on with you at the moment FABL. My boys are 14 and a half and 13 and a half so into the lots of extra love years but doing ok actually. Happy to hear you had your companion so long and sorry to hear of their loss I am sure it was hard even if expected by that stage.

Morning everyone Day 10 ... feeling tired again :-(

Hey DD I hear you, I feel so guilty for no working more on my writing but I am learning to be more patient with myself ... I realise my impatience/frustration often led me to drink because when I drank I didnt care and that felt better but of course the next day was 10 X worse adding shame on top.

Thanks for reading, it helps to feel I am not alone...

Thanks for the kind welcome. After looking through a lot of posts last night...what a great group!
And a special shout out to those who have stumbled during the month and have come right back. I was in a previous class (sort of) and didn't have the inner resources to do that...
(And the teacher thing...My parents were both teachers and I also swore I wasn't going to be one, but I love it.)

Welcome all to a new day (or night depending on your geographical location)!

Rolling into day 21 and trying to decide my course of action today. Much to choose from and I need to keep this body in motion!

I'm enjoying my newfound community here at SR, but it does remind you constantly about whatever demon substance you are trying to abstain from.

Human nature being what it is, when you deprive yourself of something, you seem to become more preoccupied with it than you were before you started your deprivation.

Here's to hoping for the day when your thoughts are only occupied by living the rest of your life in sobriety, or better yet just living/loving your (sober) life!

Thanks B for that quote. I'm screen shooting stuff like this on my phone!

That's Bob for the video. Watched it in the wee hours of the night. Thanks again. More please! I know I can dig around too. Just short on time usually.

Forbetterlife - sorry for your loss. It's hard losing anyone especially parents. I was a "daddy's girl". Lost my dad in 2013 but he had Alz the last ten so I really lost him long ago. That was sad too. It's easier to say "it's gets easier" but it doesn't to me. Just cherish the wonderful memories you have. That's the best advice I can give.

Welcome all newcomers and congrats to sober people!

Hey has anyone used a Liver Health/Detox/Cleanse supplement? Or any advice from their doctor about these? My husband is pre-diabetic (I would say by his glucose #). His aunt is a supplement person (didn't want to say "freak"!). She gave him these "The Ultimate Diabetic Nerve Rejuvenator" pills. He could hardly get out of bed with the nerves in his feet. He's not a big believer in supplements. These pills are incredible he says. I was just curious about liver pills. There are liver pills on the site. And brain/memory pills (since my dad had Alz....).

Happy day everyone !

Keep on keepin on!

Day 1

day 1 again. Glad I'm coming home from this business trip. I need to get back to a routine.
Still scared about how I'm gonna string together some good sober time when I can't seem to do it for a day or 2 now. One day at a time I guess. I will not drink today.

Startin day 20 here at the beach. Me and the boys are going to the Mexican restaurant during danger time (4pm) today. I’m finding that if I just plan out what I’m going to do during my previous drinking time then that helps. No plan equals stupid thinking has a chance to take hold.

Even though I have 4 kids, 3 granddaughters, and running friends I do feel isolated…..except here. I just cannot talk about my drinking with anyone other than here. I’ve seriously considered AA but I have that social stigma thing to get over. I am getting there as I’m being more honest with myself about my alcoholism. I think I need to write “I am an alcoholic” on the blackboard a hundred times for it to sink in…..Maybe every day.

Has anyone else read Allen Carr`s book How to control Alcohol (which is about stopping not controlling in the end) ... The last time I stopped for 6 months was following reading this book... I reread it when recommitting to sobriety and it helps me...

I will order that, thanks Dee! day 10 also, been down last couple days... still not sleeping enough so guess its taking a toll, or its the expected up and down in mood. Not sure. Luckily I have a late meeting so wont listen to av and drink for sure.
