Checking in tonight. Going for another 24 hours at 7:50p CST.

Congrats to 439Trish on reaching a new milestone today! To celebrate her awesome accomplishment, today we have a strawberry cheesecake. Keep up the great work!

Kris-sending healing prayers your way.

Bim-mr. strat and I want pygmy goats. They are wonderful little creatures, but we'd need more than a yard to keep them in.

Strat, the neighbors have them in a small area. I don't think it's ideal, but they do fine. I think they must use the milk. Dunno. I don't think they are for the meat - but I could be wrong there, too.

24 more please, and I'm glad that day is over!

On the positive side, we go on holiday tomorrow for a week by the English seaside....

Just wondered, how does everyone deal with holidays? The last time we went away (feb) I drank and undid the good work I'd managed in sobriety up until then. I found the change of routine / surroundings a little hard to deal with then.
I'm certain I won't let the same happen again, just feel a little apprehensive when I should be looking forward to getting away and enjoying family time...

Hope everyone's weekend is being good so far

I know you'll have fun -- the seaside will be beautiful & in a pinch you can go walk off a craving up and down the beach!

Relaxing on holiday sober takes a little practice for most of us, I think. Don't force yourself -- in my experience, the pleasure I don't try for comes more often than when I fuss and fret to have fun.

On my rare vacations, I've made sure I get time in the morning to focus on gratitude and meditation. If I can get internet, I keep up with this thread and my essential others on the forum. I stay fed & hydrated and allow myself more ice cream than usual

Almost forgot to sign in today. Just to busy this morning. But I felt something was missing!

Hi Mark
My little family has been going to Kauai since our son was about 8, he's 24 in September. Our first visit, checking into the Hyatt on our way to our room. We saw this very large painting of a rooster. How odd we thought ....ha ha..you know the rest. Roosters, chickens, & red dirt we just fell in love with that Island!
P.S. Our son is Mark too, he celebrates 7 years in recovery the day after his birthday. So proud of him!

And, of course, here to check in for the next 24 hours of my recovery. Ever grateful to my HP for leading me to AA and then to finding this safe place to come to every night.

These are all GREAT suggestions! Only thing I would add would be (if possible), let someone in your traveling party know you're sober & want to stay that way. For my 1st vacation it was my husband & son. It helped so much and they were super supportive.

Also, find a sober buddy to connect with offline (again, if possible). If you're in AA, maybe get some numbers & text if you need to. For me, for my first sober work conference I let this thread know I was scared & a very dear friend PM'd me her phone number. I used it once or twice and now we speak offline at least twice a month. It's a two-way street - together we're stronger.

Hope this helps. It is completely doable & you'll feel so great about yourself when it's over. Have a lovely time!!
