Welcome, Joe! Congrats on over 2 months sober! I love this thread - many of us are getting our "sober legs". Some of us are "Pop-overs" - we are on the Over 1 year sober thread after "graduating" from here but we like to pop in and encourage those in the first year. I just recently joined the "Overs" and still have companions here.

JoeinHouston -- Welcome to the Unders thread, my fellow Texan! Even in my heaviest drinking days, I never understood the appeal of drinking alcohol at a movie theater as that would eventually just make me "break the seal" and I'd spend a good part of the movie going to the restroom after that.

Wishing everyone a safe and sober Sunday!

Hi undies.
Had a fun first night in Vegas. Gambling and walking around. Ran into Floyd mayweather and his crew rolling up in 4 bugattis around 3am. Did some more gambling and won a few hundred. It's crazy to watch some of the drunk people try and function falling over and passed out in chairs in front of slot machines.
Flying back tomorrow

Joe - Welcome to the Undies! It's great to enjoy our life and activities sober, isn't it? I gave up on going to movies or watching them at home when I drank. I was either anxious for it to end so I could start drinking or couldn't stay awake through one after I started drinking! It's sad when I think back to how many aspects of my life revolved around drinking.

BoozeFree - Movie night was a success. The kids and I saw Minions. It was cute. I neither was waiting for it to be over so I could get home and drink nor was passing out, and the boys enjoyed spending time together, so I'll call that a success! Have fun in Vegas and a safe rest of your trip!

Casey - Glad you're staying accountable. Keep up the good work!

Have a great sober day everyone!

Thanks for the welcome everybody and Joe is my real name of course. Activities are so much better sober - from going out to dinner with family to attending a quarterly running club meeting at a local brewery. So much easier to contribute to what is going on when you have a clear head and a sharp mind. I wonder hom much better I might get at this social stuff, forgotten how much fun it used to be.

Welcome Angd and Joe... Will we have to rename this thread the Texan Undies?????

Joe I am dismayed you now have movie theatres where drink can be purchased, for a lot of folk beginning recovery, at least the cinema was somewhere you could go and have a nice time and not have to deal with the temptation of alcohol.
I guess I can understand from their perspective that they have to compete with folk being able to watch films at home or being able to go out elsewhere and drink, but why does society seem to feel we need more opportunities to drink, when alcoholism is becoming a bigger and bigger societal issue? It really beggars belief! Well done on enjoying the film and not letting AV spoil things for you.

BeFree, glad you are having fun and winning!!

I was thinking just the same thing, Toots. In early recovery it seems that booze is just everywhere. Turns out that maybe it really is!!! Cinema is a nice sober refuge for me. Never heard of one that sells drink. Different laws in different parts of the world, I guess.

Welcome to the thread Angd!

Welcome Joe

Toots & Amp - Alcohol in cinemas is quite popular now. Of the three large ones near me, all serve booze , albeit at extortionate prices. It's put me off going a but which is a shame as I love my films. I might try braving it this week as I'm bored of sitting in the house!

Welcome, Angd and congrats on 51 days!

Toots, I hadn't noticed the Texas frequency until you mentioned it ;-)

Now live theaters are also serving alcohol! It's mind-boggling to think of what could be next.

Have a good one to all.

I walked down the hall yesterday and saw a case of empties outside someone's door. I raised my eyebrows. Such an old scold these days!

Theaters that sell alcohol are pretty common here in California. The theater I used to go to in my days had a bar I'd visit for a few drinks before checking out the movie.

Every time I take the recycling out I think of how great it is not to be dealing with the visual evidence of drinking.

Hey! Just checking in..was pretty quiet on my end for a couple of days. Everything is ok. I too am like everyone else, just sorting out some issues. Feeling better today, but having to dig deep to learn a different approach on how I deal with things/people. The way I am dealing with things/people is not a good coping mechanism. I got to turn that around. My husband is letting me talk with him and cry and whatever I need to do. He has been through so much with me and I didn't realize how much until recently. I am so thankful I have him. He really has been the one constant in my life. Now that I am getting better we both have to work on how to get better together. We have been so toxic in the way we handle each other and talk to each other. It really is a learning process for my whole family and anyone who wants to be a part of my life.
Hello to the new people! There are some supportive and caring people here. You will find some help and comfort here.
Yay! for the ones who are doing well and coming to some understanding in their lives!
I am thankful for each of you! Bad or good it keeps me in check!
((hug)) to you all!

Yeah, that's such a huge plus. I live in a small building and share a recycling bin with two families on my floor. I'm 99.9% sure I was the only one putting empty handles of vodka in, which I'd drank on my own. I started just putting them in my messenger bag I take to work and tossing them out in the subway station so it wouldn't look as bad.

Very nice not having to do that anymore.
