My old ma used to let me shuck the ears of corn on the stoop by the kitchen door, strands of corn silk clinging to my fingers and eventually ending up in my hair. Sweet corn should be shucked and eaten as soon as possible after being harvested – within about a ½ hour.
I don’t know why, but fresh sweet corn makes me feel lucky to be alive.
