Glad your gang isn't affected by the fires Briar. Nice pic too.

Glad you're sticking around with us Arbor, even if you need a little time to just listen and reflect. Do I regret that you're hurting, yes, but like the others said, there's no room for judgement around here.

Thanks Mark. Appreciate the support. I consider you and everyone else here in this great class a very good friend. Who else knows better the depths of struggle we face? No one. I don't want to loose all of you.

Yesterday was a much better day. And today I'm feeling even better despite this heat wave. Taking it day by day.

Enjoy everyone.

Cool pic, Briar!

Hi gang. I have been reading quickly but not posting. We were somewHat unplugged on the island, no wifi and eating data big time. So, we just tried to not use our phones much.

It was a very relaxing place, amazing scenery, and very taciturn for a place so close to bustling NYC and Long Island. The East end of LI is like another world from NYC. Miles of vineyards, which we did not visit but made for a beautiful drive. Also oyster pond and lavender farms along our ride to the New Haven ferry today. Kids got a bit bored on Shelter Island. Only 2000 year round residents! But they did enjoy the beach and tried paddle boarding. It would have been better with bikes and some games. I expected my cousin would have games at the house, but they did not. It was lovely for husband and I. We enjoyed taking a few scenic drives around the island and dreaming about living in some of the more grand homes. On the front end, we had a nice visit with older aunties and a second cousin and her mom.

Sorry to read of your struggles Arbor. Stick with us. I have relapsed so many times since joining here. Not promoting that, but we surely all understand it. It takes some of us a few tries to get there. This is a strong and inspirational group. I feel hopeful and gain strength from all of you.

I need to catch up more on the last day or so. And can share some pictures once I get on my computer and put some on photobucket.

Glad to see you again phoebe! I'm looking forward to your pics. A ferry, so that's how it's done.

Nice link Conquest. I may need to watch that with my coffee before gym time!

Had a really nice weekend in Providence. Airbnb was perfect. Nice room with a king size bed and clawfoot bathtub in a 1910 home. Great visit with DD; hung out, played cards and backgammon, talked, ate out a lot, watched movies and I had my own tour of the RISD Museum.

Venus, next time, OK? We love the same shows so I'm sure it'll be tons of fun!
I forgot to mention the cat. The home had a tabby who jumped into Siobhan's lap during breakfast. How's that for personal?

Sounds like some nice memories were made with your daughter BD....that's the good stuff.

Proper work out done and ready to get going with the day. Four day weekend coming up starting tomorrow, so TGIT.

I hope your newest boy's sleeping routine is falling into place Arbor. With my kiddos at least that part got a little better around 8 weeks or so.

Wishing all the team the best day.

Sounds like a great trip BD. How's sobriety going? What have you been doing that's working?

Baby boy is seven weeks today Mark. He will give us a four hour stretch at night then time for feeding. He's a really sweet baby. Not colicky or anything. Breast feeding going well. The four month mark I remember being the magic number when they start to develop a routine of sorts.

Still hot and humid here. Tis the season! Have a great day all.

Glad to hear the baby is doing well, and easy going, Arbor. My son was an easy infant, but got a bit more challenging and moody as he got older, lol, but is still very sweet, at 11 years old. He is just a sensitive soul.

BD, your time in Providence sounds lovely. I have not been for years, but have always liked that city. Spent a bit of time there with a boyfriend through my college years. He went to PC.

I have some pictures to post, to share the beauty, but also, Mark, you have asked about the beaches. SI was about a 2 hour trip, but very pleasant, from basically Queens, for reference. The drive was mostly on quiet roads and then straight into a line for the ferry and onto the ferry. There, you can step out of your vehicle and enjoy the view on the 10 minute ride across the water. The town on the mainland is very nice with shopping and dining, and lots of waterfront views. Big Marina there with very fancy yachts and sailboats! We were a bit out of place sometimes, lol.

Here are a few pictures:

A typical view of the type of boats seen from the beach or if dining waterside!

two shots of the same, beach, typical, but maybe the roughest of the few we saw. They are not groomed beaches, as it is a small, largely residential island. You can see that people just leave their kayaks and small sailboats there on the beach. They write their names on them. They do not get stolen!

The last two are a sunset at our local beach where my cousin has his house, and a view from a very remote spot on the island. It was a tiny slip of land, an unpaved road out there, and lovely views. Private, so we could only drive out and take pictures. You need a permit to leave your car there. We did find out on the second to last day that we could have obtained a weekly permit for $35. We still had a nice time. There was some non-permit parking at out local beach. It turned out to be a bit too far to walk with all the chairs and a cooler of cold drinks.

It is different, Mark, but my kids said they liked the Gulf Coast beach better. This was rough on the feet, but it was also quite warm, and pretty, different to see. Nice that it was all so quiet and wooded all around the island.

Sorry, some are a bit fuzzy. Harder to tell if I have a good focus on the zoom and with sunglasses.

Arbor I agree on four months, my girl shaped up real well around that time. But as I recall, it was preceded by a brief but frightful sleep regression. By around eight months she slept solid through the night and has consistently been a great sleeper (barring unusual circumstances like sickness and stuff). I'm glad yours is treating you guys kindly.

Welcome back to the vacationers. Sounds like you all had a good time.

A big fire broke out yesterday about ten miles from my mom's house, and it's moving pretty fast, so we are on standby in case we need to go get her out. Fires happen a lot up there, but this one hit a particularly dry and inaccessible area in the mountains, so it's hard to contain it. It's up to about four square miles, but that news is a few hours old. They have about 350 firefighters out there right now, so hopefully they can make some progress on it today.

This is one of the reasons I'll never live out in the country again. Not much they can do to save your house when it's tucked so deep in the craggy wilderness they can't even land a helicopter out there. My mother is crazy.

Anyway, nothing we can do but wait and see.

Have a good one everybody.

My heart danced a bit when I read this, Mark. What wonderful news.

I have had connectivity issues (which I hope to have resolved today or tomorrow) so I haven't been able to keep up with SR.

I saw news coverage this morning on what is probably the fire to which you referred; very frightening. Prayers for your Mom and all in the path of the blaze.

You are not disappointing us, dear Arbor.

If battling alcoholism was easy there would be no need for AA, rehab facilities, detox centers, SR and the myriad of resources and dollars put into recovery.

We are here for you.
