Arbor, you got the book! Let me know what you think. Ill bet it's good stuff.

And I think being around others that are in-tune with their spirituality has helped me to grow in that area. Listening to their testimonies, watching how they act, encourages me to explore it more. I've met certain people that are so peaceful and thought, I want that! Finding a church home has been a huge support for me. I visited quite a few before finding this one. Many are turned off because religion can get regimented. And that's not what this place is about. It's about learning to live in a a more loving way, for self and for others.... I geek out about it and could ramble for pages here. My point? Maybe trying a service at church, temple, or somewhere could help. The worst that could happen is you walk in and right back out. I did that several times. Just wear your nikes. Lol

Briar, I'm so glad things are feeling upward. And you've got me determined to cook some real food tomorrow. We've been eating out of the microwave for a couple of days. Bleh.

Hi Breezy! Glad you're here.

Waiting on my dude. After watching Pitch Perfect and 22 Jumpstreet last night, it's his pick tonight. And he's picked American Sniper. Sheesh. What a great pick for bedtime. I'll be watching through my fingers.

Lotsa love to each of you!

This is a good conversation.
Interestingly enough, I have never had any issue with the spiritual side of AA.
I am deeply spiritual, and always have been.
But you don't have to feel this way to still get a lot out of AA. Maybe you could just go to a meeting Arbor and see how it feels? And phoebe, the same for you...you could end up meeting some wonderful new friends.

As for the question "how do I believe?"
For some people, they start with the power of the universe. The magic of nature. Or remember that license plate you saw Arbor when you needed a sign? The AV plate? For me, that is the power of the universe, or God.

Just some thoughts....

Yes Briar, a simple day is a good day for me too. I was thinking about that last night. I used to crave excitement. Now I crave serenity.

Love to everyone. ♥

Hi Conquest love.

American Sniper...LOL. Sounds like you and your man have different taste in movies. I could not handle watching that before bed...it is supposed to be an excellent movie though, and there is the whole true story factor.

Great point, Venus!
Making a list of those license plate moments can remind us that there's something bigger than us out there. Those moments when you just know that you know...ya know?
Very powerful

And yes... Our movie tastes are very different. Lol

I would love to return to my career, but it's been 16 years as a SAH mom and caregiver for elders after that. Not sure anyone would have me and it is typically physical and I have a chronic back problem. I guess I may need to just go for some other part time job. I keep hoping I can get strong and get back to being a PT part time. I do keep my license current.

phoebe love, all of those years volunteering at the schools for your kids is huge. I bet you could get an awesome reference. Many employers out there will appreciate your years of care, both in the home and to ill parents. You may choose to get a part-time job completely out of your field so that your back isn't compromised. I mean, you are so creative...you could be an asset to any company who makes/designs jewellery...you could perhaps become a sales person in that area. Or maybe you could make more of your own stuff, and start your own business?

Phoebe I agree, I'm sure you can find a job you'd really enjoy. You're smart and compassionate. And being a mom and caregiver is no joke, hard work! Keep an open mind.

Spirituality is a challenge for me. I do believe there is a creative force, but I can't get my brain around the idea that it "loves" me and is willing to change me if I ask it to. That doesn't quite line up for me, and that was a big challenge for me in AA. Maybe I'll come back to it someday.

Today was a good day. My work was madness, but it worked out well. I'm feeling better, clearer, more positive. I even cooked dinner again. Miracle! Hoping for another good day tomorrow, and I'm feeling some confidence that I can steer my perception and maintain self-awareness. So it's all good.

Best to you guys!

Phoebe, check out www.meetup.com. You join local groups and meet new people. Some are dating groups, but that's not the focus. Each group states its mission. I belong to several. It's a great way to meet new people with no commitment.

Where is everybody?

Good day over here. Feeling good and productive. I cooked a nice stir fry for dinner with the heaps of summer veggies our friends are giving us. I promised a coworker I'd make him some lemon curd from the last lemons on my tree, so I need to do that tomorrow.

I figured out how to get Comcast on my phone, so now I can watch shows anytime, and I'm inundated with possibilities. naturally the first thing I went for was a documentary on climate change because I am a major nerd.

I hope everyone is well.

Good morning gang. My work has me really consumed at the moment, but that's good. Any spare time in the evenings I'm online scouring the nyc housing scene helping my son find suitable lodging for his (small) budget.

Happy Thursday.

I'm in weird but good head-space tonight...after all of the loss and hard stuff that the past year brought, I am feeling ready to move on. And that made me think back to who I was before all of this happened. I can never be that woman again, too much has changed, but I can still find her, the essential me. It is a new phase for me now, a new beginning, a new Suzanne. It is a strange feeling. Not bad, just a little unsettling. Not sure what is going to happen next...I just know that being sober and being here with you all is a really good thing.

Good morning gang. On vacation. Drove yesterday, and I met a friend for dinner. It was a great gab fest! She does not drink so that was easy. Just had the hotel breakfast and we are relaxing a bit in our room. I may check out the gym. We visit with my two elderly aunts, one is 85, the other over 90, but that one is sharp! Younger not as much, and is the one that was with me for most of a year. She came down here to live with her older sister, who has a size able extended family. We will take them to an early dinner, which my son calls, "dunch." We are in an area thickly populated and with tons of shopping, malls, food. May just check out the ginormous mall until it is time to visit. Sharing one bath makes showers take a long time, too, lol.

Tomorrow, we move on to the beachy part of our week.

I had once checked the meet ups site. Did not see much for my are other than dating groups and maybe a few very specific niches. Maybe need to look again. I could try some community Ed classes or activities. Or try the nicer gym again. My neighbor has made friends there. But she is a true athlete and is in the masters swim and tri groups. I am not athletic. Will never be, lol.

I'm glad you feel ready to move on V. You've been through quite a lot in the past year or so. Maybe not worry about what's going to happen next? Things sometimes fall into place when we least expect it.
