Class of May 2015 Part 6
Once again, I'm home from work right around midnight so I guess I'm technically on day 66 now. Only four more days until 70, which was my second big goal I kinda set myself when I started this journey. First was 54 days. I know we've only got one day at a time but there is no reason I shouldn't make it to 70 if I just keep doing tomorrow what I did today.
Good day today. Watched that episode of Hannibal that I talked about last night. Glad I waited until the daytime to watch it. I like that show but man is it creepy. I would have had nightmares if I'd watched it before bed last night.
Work was busy. I was in a good section again, made good money. I've already made enough money in my last four shifts to cover rent for August so I should now be able to put most everything else I make this month into my car fund.
AllieK -- I'm sure your daughter will have a great time, whatever she's doing. Hang in there and remember to please come talk to us if the urge to drink hits.
I will be careful. I'm just glad to find another fan of the show. Not too many people seem to know about it. Like I said, this season is only six episodes long so I bet they'll have it up on Netflix in the next three or four months or so.
Thanks to everyone else who posted. Sorry if I didn't mention you by name. I'm pooped. Going to put on a mindless tv show and wind down a little and then go to sleep. Have a safe and sober Sunday everyone! Talk to you in the morning.

Hi all!
I took a day off from the computer yesterday (other than the 24 hour thread) and it was lovely. I finally caught up on everything on here! Glad to see everyone has been busy and doing well. I completely forgot yesterday was day 60 for me until this morning. Woohoo! I didn't really have any goals set, so everyday is exciting for me, but 2 months is definitely longer than I ever thought I would have.
I'm going to have to check out this Rectify show. It sounds fantastic and I've got Netflix so no reason not to. I'm always up for a good, new show! I loved Deadwood as well and I know the guy you're talking about Casey. Very talented so the show must be good. Maybe I'll watch Hannibal too. I haven't seen that one yet either.
Gina, sorry to hear you're kind of in a funk, but I'm glad you're checking in. It will pass. I just think about the amount of good days I've had- they definitely out-weigh the bad ones so far.

Hey guys. I went to a wedding tonight. And yes I drank. I knew the wedding was coming and I think that's why I couldn't re-commit myself after the recent slip ups. BUT the wedding is over and I have committed to myself, my daughter, and my husband at least 30 days sober starting as soon as I go to bed and wake up.
I know I'm not perfect and I absolutely hate coming to you guys on SR in this class and saying I'm drinking. Even though I'm not 100% sober I want you to know that being accountable to you helps me whether I drink or not. I still think of you guys. :-)
So many of you are doing such a good job. I'm not doing such a good job but I'm trying and I'm way better than I was. Good job to all of you who are still sober. I envy you.
Day 1 starts on 7/12. Yes I'm counting again. I assure you I will feel terrible tomorrow (sunday) so I might not post til Monday but I will read.
I want to say "I love you guys" but that makes me sound totally drunk. lol. But I do. You hold me accountable when nobody else does and I am grateful for that.
I should join the July class but I don't want to because you already know me. I don't want to start over.
Have a good sober Sunday! Love you guys.

Sorry to say I gave in and drank yesterday too. Made it 5 or 6 days this time. I don't have an excuse really, just the urge to drink was overwhelming and I caved for instant relief. Getting back to to try again. I need to schedule a little time in each day to work on breathing/relaxing. I read about it but having done anything regularly.
Congrats site on 60 days!
Ally, sorry about the wedding slip. One of the last weddings I was at turned into a compete blackout for me. We were hanging out with the bride and groom after the reception and I ended up getting sick all over the hotel room floor. The groom cleaned me up. How classy of me.

Really starting day 66 now. I have to stop drinking caffeine at night. I didn't fall asleep until almost four in the morning. Still trying to get used to working in the evenings again after almost a year of working daytime hours and I overcompensate with the caffeine. I'll survive though, it's all a learning process.
I also strained a muscle or something in my right arm last night. That's the arm I use to lift trays. It was semi-hurting all night long. I had issues with that same arm all last summer but they finally went away. I guess the smart decision in sobriety would be to go see a doctor about it. It's not super painful or anything just not comfortable or right feeling.
Work again tonight. Probably going to try and go back to sleep for a couple of hours after I get done doing my usual morning SR routine.
AllieK -- I'm glad you're back to counting. I know it doesn't work for some but personally I think it builds accountability especially in situations like this forum where all we have is each others word. It lets myself and others know I'm definitely not drinking instead of just failing to share that I'm drinking. Which I did many times. I was a master of the lie of omission.
You deserve a better way of life and you're not going to find it in a bottle. I do hope you'll eventually decide to start sharing these plans of drinking before you take that plunge. That also would build some accountability to yourself and to us. Wishing you the best today...
nmd -- Sorry you made the decision to take that first drink as well. That instant relief must not have been too great since you're back in here first thing. I feel for you, been down that road hundreds and hundreds of times before and don't want to go down it again. You've got to break that cycle of relapse at some point and there's no better time than today. You're in my thoughts...
site -- I definitely wasn't really recommending Hannibal. It's a very, um, different show. In case you don't know, it's a retelling of the early days of Hannibal Lecter of The Silence of the Lambs fame. Very creepy, very surreal, just plain gross and graphic sometimes. But always well-made and -acted. At times I really like it but at times I ask myself why I'm still watching it. But it's been really good for the last two or three weeks. It also was just cancelled so will only be on the air for another six or seven weeks. Investigate it and watch at your own risk if it sounds appealing to you.
Hope your travels are going well. Still in Spain?
Wishing everyone a safe and sober Sunday. If you haven't checked in lately, hope you'll do so soon!

Congrats on 8 weeks Copper!
Casey - Congrats on 66 days - which is where I"d be if I wasn't so stupid last week. So, by starting over I"m at day 8. Oh well, lesson learned.
I've hit 7 months smoke free today!
This is the year I"ve wanted to make changes, and although its not perfect, I am in a way better place than I was at this time last year. Those thoughts help me to keep moving forward.
Since I pulled something in my neck the other day, it still hurts, and the pain goes up my neck and into my head and its really annoying. I bought some Icy Hot today, and am hoping that it helps. I've tried stretching, hot showers, and I can't stand it.
Well, off to work in a couple of hours.. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!!

I can't watch stuff like Hannibal. I saw the first Silence of the Lambs and never saw any of the sequels. Not my thing. Hate gore, which is why I was so turned off to Breaking Bad and decided not to watch that either. Didn't know that it got a lot better after the 3rd episode.
I looked up Deadwood and it's not available on Netflix. I have mixed feelings about Rectify because it was so horrible, what he lived through in prison. I can't imagine such torture and being so trapped for so long. The guy on the other side of his cell wall! OMG.
Casey, I think it was you who told me about Rectify. It was someone on SR cause I hadn't known about it until then. Someone here told me about Bloodline too. That was another excellent show. I need to find more good ones. Anybody ever watch The West Wing? I haven't but I really love House of Cards. Never got into Mad Men either. Seemed like everyone was sleeping with the wrong people.
I should spend a lot more time outdoors and on the go rather than in front of a tv or computer screen. I love to be at home, though. Nothing wrong with that. It's my happy place.
Have a wonderful sober day, folks! That's my plan as well.

Copper -- congrats on 8 weeks! How are you doing?
sagittarius -- 7 months cigarette free is awesome. I know that quitting takes a lot of strength, maybe even more so than drinking. So glad it's one bad habit I never picked up.
Cissy -- it was definitely me who talked about Bloodline and might have been me who said something about Rectify before. I remember I made a list of shows at one point in the first month here.
I love love love Mad Men. That might be my favorite television show of all time actually. It's like a great novel to me.
I personally didn't remember Breaking Bad being that gore-y in the first three episodes but it's been a long long time since I've seen them.
Never watched The West Wing but always heard good things. House of Cards didn't float my boat for some reason. I gave up on it pretty quickly. I have a lot of friends who love it though.
If you don't like gore, Deadwood might not have been your thing anyways. It could be pretty brutal at times. If nothing else, the language was definitely harsh but beautiful. One of the lead characters, Al Swearengen, might be the most inventive user of every variety of curse word in the history of television, if not the world. He was especially skilled in the use of the word c-sucker, to put it nicely. I didn't know it could have so many different variations and uses. It was an HBO show and Netflix tends to not get those. Our local library has a great DVD selection--maybe yours does too. Or maybe see how much Netflix charges to send actual DVDs these days?

Hi Class-
Getting to Season 7 on Dexter. After I wrap that up (if it ever ends lol) going to check out Rectify perhaps? I haven't heard of it either.
I've seen Breaking Bad, SOA, House of Cards (meh), White Collar (loved), Longmire (cowboy/ sheriff solving crimes in Wyoming- I liked it). Probably plenty more I can't think of. Netflix = best sober friend for me right now!!! Also like to watch the stand-up comedy specials for a break from the series sometimes!
For those of you that are drinking, I'm sorry that you are. Please get right back into being quit for good! We're here for you.

Haha Casey I will keep the warning about Hannibal in mind. Stuff like that usually doesn't bother me though, so I might like it!
Copper, CONGRATS! 8 weeks is awesome. Nice to see you on here.
Sag, have you ever gone to a chiropractor? I've had shoulder/neck problems for as long as I can remember and they seem to help, until I stop doing what they tell me to do and I mess it up again
Cissy, home is my happy place to. It's funny because with my job everyone wants to go out to dinner on days off and I always just want to get room service and veg out. I'm around people ALL day at work, and when it's my day off I just want some quiet alone time! Although given the choice I would just have quiet alone time forever haha Curling up with a good tv show or a book is my favorite way to spend the evenings. I still go out a lot, I just do it during the day and usually solo. To the beach or on long walks, things like that.
I'd like to watch Deadwood again one of these days. I forgot how much I enjoyed it. Good ol' Swearengen. I only watched the first 5 episodes of breaking bad and I remember it being a little gorey. I didn't mind it but for some reason I couldn't really get into the show. I need to sit down and watch it again. Same thing with Mad Men.
Dharma I love Longmire! I think it was a book series first, but I never read it. You should check out Deadwood if you haven't seen it. You might like it.
Right now I'm on a big Animal Planet kick. The other stuff I love (GOT, True Dectective, etc) is on the back burner. I needed a little break for some cheerier, lighter shows. Loving My Cat From Hell and Tanked right now. They're both pretty good. Maybe when I'm home and have more time I'll sit down and catch up on all the intense HBO/Showtime stuff.

Arrested Development is my favorite sitcom of all time. I have literally seen every episode (well, at least of the first 3 seasons) at least thirty times, if not forty. And I still find new jokes in at all the time. It was so jam-packed with all sorts of humor, both broad and very subtle. It's kind of my go-to show to put on in the background when I'm doing something else around the house but need some noise on.
Though lately I'm getting enough sober time that I'm back to playing music in the background a lot. Loud music was a trigger for me at times as sitting around a bar in the afternoon with a good book and some tunes playing was my favorite thing to do for years but I'm feeling OK with music now.

I can't tell you how many times I've watched it, but it never gets old.
Pretty much everything Casey just said, I totally agree with.
Thanks for mentioning that Allie! I'm going to watch it again!

I don't know how to insert a video, but here's a good Greatest Hits clip from AD:

Speaking of, how do you get the video to show up in your post? Is that even possible?

There's a button on the reply box that will do it too. It's the second to last button on the row that has the bold and italics options, etc.
For example, here is one of my favorite Arrested Development compilation videos:
