Class of October 2014 Part 11
I don't know what a cooling centre is Leigh.
But I won't leave little V anyway....
Everything is closed up and dark again in here.
And it will pass by this afternoon.
Sorry to sound so melodramatic; I just don't do intense heat well.

Chick I can totally relate to knowing all the things to do and then, in that moment, moving right past them. To me it's like being possessed, it feels creepy to me. I don't have much in the way of advice as I haven't figured out how to survive that pivotal moment, but I completely understand how you feel.
I think possessed is a good way to put it.
Possessed by the AV.
It's about learning to dismiss that voice.
It is not telling us the truth.
Drinking will not help, it will not make us feel good, it will not be the escape we are looking for.
We are not our thoughts.
We can choose whether or not to listen to those random firings.
And if the voice is way too loud, we can come here and help each other through it.
It just takes practice.

When the temps exceed 100 degrees or so (especially if it is accompanied by an air-quality alert) for an extended period of time, a community center, school, or the like may open its doors to the public to allow people without air-conditioning to come in and cool off. Some allow pets on leashes or in carriers.

Okay guys, I'm making plans to buy vodka today. I'm going to tell my husband I need eggs for lemon curd, then I'm going to buy vodka at the store. I'm getting very excited and antsy, heart beating fast. I really REALLY want to do it right now. Help!
I just left a message on the thread that you just started.
Please don't do it, Briar. Please talk to your husband; call the friend who has helped you so much lately.
Whatever you do, don't leave the house.

I responded to you in your thread but I'll reiterate here. If you give into this today you're going to have to revisit the options you really don't want to do, like inpatient rehab.
remember the stakes here Briar - it's not just one bottle of vodka.
Tell your husband whats going on if thats what it takes to keep you at home.

from ~ it's a shame that you don't feel that those in your local AA meetings would value anonymity. They should. It's a very important part of the program. But if that's the case for you, then I am very glad that your sister is a power of example for you. Talk to her, and perhaps she has some literature you may wish to read.
And maybe you could do an online AA meeting? Just thinking out loud...
(EDIT: The post I responded to is gone, just in case you all think I'm nuts here).

I think we all know what that's like or we wouldn't be here I think it takes an enormous amount of time and practice to dismiss that voice. Especially in times when we are not at our best. Cause that's when it always gets us. Exercise some due diligence.
Okay, I just drank almost an entire bottle of sparkling cider. I realized I felt more triggered in the kitchen, so I turned off the stove, grabbed the cider, and left. I feel okay in the living room. The sugar crash is going to be rough, but way better than a month in rehab.
Thank you guys for giving me the leg up to think my way out of that one, that was close!

I caught the post FAD. Rational Recovery may appeal to you - it's book based and there's a lot of threads on it in the Secular Connections Forum.
I found Allen Carrs Easy Way To Quit Drinking was useful to me too (It might be known as Easy Way To Control Alcohol, depending which continent you live on)
