Oh! Kingfisher - or Kookaburra? A very teensy one. Or, is that one of those huge Corpse flowers? Regardless.

I have a Kingfisher that lives on my stretch of the river. He is very territorial, and very vocal about it.

Thanks, Kris.

Thanks for the welcome! It is cooooold here in Toronto today. I'm taking the kids out to see Jupiter Ascesding. I have my boyfriends moms bad bad dog here for the weekend... he is such a little *******. He's ripped up my garbage twice.... HUGE mess and he won't stop crapping all over my house. Serentity now! I am NEVER taking him again.... he has worn out his welcome. Her other dog is a sweetheart and a very good dog and I would keep him. Frankly I think I should be allowed to keep for putting up with the bad one.

Hi all. Back to commit myself to sobriety for the next 24. I need to post here, to keep me sober. I don't know why I commit myself to sobriety, and then change my mind, after a while. I should know better by now. I have got to change my plan, because this isn't working.

Anyway, 11:32 am. I'm here.

Thanks Soberleigh. Isolating myself seems to be the first step for me in leading to drinking. I have to force myself to be social sometimes, even online.

It is so good that you recognize isolation as problematic. We are rather caught between a rock and a hard spot in early sobriety. Socializing can be difficult in early times as alcohol seems to a part of so many activities and we haven't yet found sober activities; isolation seems like a good response to avoiding those situations but once loneliness sets in we are tempted to turn to our old coping tool; finding the 'safe spot' is a balancing act.

Volunteering can help.

Thanks Gilmer!

That's so true, SoberLeigh. I have really struggled with that the most on this journey. I miss hanging out at my local bar on Fridays and chatting with my buddy. I romanticize it after I've been sober for a while. And then I give in. I have got to develop a way to stop myself when that happens. I'm really frustrated and angry with myself.

I think your suggestion to volunteer is a good one. Thanks!

But I am going to keep trying, no matter how many times it takes.

Nursing homes are always looking for volunteers to sit with the residents - talk with them, read to them, take them outdoors for fresh air, sometimes pray with them, wipe their tears in their sadness.
