Sounds good, MeSo! Yes, expanding our horizons is not just a cliche. When I was drinking, my world shrank to a very small, unhappy place. Now I'm learning how to let joy into my life again and I'm gradually learning how to set boundaries -- something I was never able to do before. There's still lots for me to explore and learn and I doubt that will change :-). You are sounding more positive than I've heard you before.

Babs, speaking of sounding different, you go girl! You sound amazing :-)

Happy 2015 to all!

Mango ice cream for breakfast since it is morning now... I would love some!

The trip sounds like fun, MeSo... and it is nice to have a goal that isn't all about achievement and work. I would like to go to Florida during 2015 but am working on scheduling it when I am not babysitting nor when the weather is too hot or it is not hurricane season.

I have been having a devil of a time coming up with one word to use as a mantra, if you will, for 2015. I saw a segment on a news program where an author discussed his book where the premise is to come up with a one word New Year's resolution. For example, his was "connect".

I have turned over words such as: love, empathize, move, do, etc. For me, it will need to be an action word as I could do feelings or be stuck in my head all day. Still a work in progress.

1day, yes! I've found in the past that something short and simple can be pounded into my brain so I always remember it. When I quit smoking (was doing 3 packs a day - I don't do anything by half measures!), I had 3 words that I could easily distill into something shorter that for me distilled my reasons to quit smoking ... FFF - for family, finances and faith. When I'd crave a cigarette, I would just think "FFF" and then think about each one and why that was important to me in quitting. By the time I finished that exercise, the craving was always gone. I continued that in gradually decreasing fashion for the first year after I quit. It has now been over 30 years and I still remember that :-)

I think mine would be "follow through." I am aces at the dreaming, the "thinking about," the contemplating, the planning. Not so much at the following through.

"Do only that which is good for you today." That's my little self-motivator.

I missed the card game. I was a professional dealer at a [big] casino in Nevada. I loved that job - except for the people blowing cigar and cigarette smoke in my face. That I did not love.

So I'm joining you guys again. I'm a Marcher 2014, so I belong. Right? My class thread has dwindled a lot. I keep seeing people that were in it coming back to the site even today, but not having stayed sober. Hm. Glad I'm not them.

I mean. I am so happy to have stayed with it.

Babs, yeah, I get that! Being sober does not make all things happy and wonderful, lol! And I knew that going in but reality did creep up on me in the form of wishful thinking. If I can get myself out of a crummy mood, then it's a good day :-). And I'm finding it easier now to get myself out of a bad mood. Next week will be 5 months for me and I'm still noticing improvements.

Hi Bimini - was just thinking that I hadn't seen you in a while -- good to see you back.

MeSo -- go for it!! I love the Cape and it really does do wonders for the spirit to have something to look forward to.

All Christmas decs are down except the tree. It took me all morning just to get everything else done so I'll keep the tree up another day or two. Now to organize the playroom to accommodate all of the new toys Santa brought.

I just got back from a whirlwind trip of cooking, cleaning, packing and unpacking. The tree will just have to stay up for awhile--I've had it! My daughter came over and trimmed it--maybe she'll come over and un-trim it, too (if I make it worth her while!).

Bim, I'm not naturally from March of 13, either--I just lurked for awhile and thought it was so much fun that I asked if they'd adopt me. They graciously said yes! They're a very gracious bunch!

Well I was in a big funk until I just read all of your posts.

My very silly motivational phrase is 'Be a fig'.
It means two things.
The first is to remind me of Newton's law of motion.

So thank you all.
Off I go!

Love V xx

Gilmer, bribing our offspring is just par for the course, lol! You've had your hands full with the holiday trifecta this year. Good to take a break :-)

Glad the posts resulted in you feeling better, dear V! I like "be a fig". It's amazing all the things we learn from each other.

Good morning Marchers Oh Babs down days come to us all, I'm glad you read here and felt a bit better, and you too V. V you've left me wondering about the second thing.

Bimini I am glad to see you! Of course you are one of us, I hope the March 2014 class thread picks up a bit but even if it doesn't, you've lots of friends here.

1Day I do like Gilmer's suggestion of "Post" being your word. Coming here every day besides being something I wanted to do, is a good reminder to me of what used to be, as well as a chance to give back in some small way. The people who come to SR really regularly seem to be solid in their recoveries. So often people disappear, sometimes coming back and sometimes not, but it's in the isolation that addiction problems recur.

By that I don't mean that we all need to keep the same schedule, simply to post when we need to (and want to), not to hide. The things that can keep us away like cravings, drinking, depression are the very things we need to share -- for our own sakes.

Plus all the other stuff.

Have a good day peeps.

I was trying to think of something else the f could stand for in my be a fig.
So let's just say it stands for Fiercely Invigorated Girl.
So it reminds to lighten up, move my butt, and follow my passions.
And the minute I get moving, I really do feel better.
Which I know you know Marcher as you are such an active person.

So that's my resolution ~ to stay in motion, and keep moving forward until I realise my dreams.
