Hello everyone

how are you all doing? I start my new job soon and am excited though nervous too. Went away this weekend with new Mr RAL and jr RAL. All went well which is good. I was a little apprehensive which is natural but things went smoothly. Think it helps hugely that new Mr Ral has been a friend for some years and not just a stranger I 've recently picked up in a pub

Anyway thoughts of drinking - none. Thinking of character defects and strengths and I said to someone last week " the best positive thing about me is that I don't drink" It seemed quite basic when I said it but thinking and thinking about it reminds me just how fundamentally my life has changed since I stopped drinking. I quit my job, moved to another country, made new friends, re-invented myself really, left my husband and have had some difficult times but I have not regretted any of them.

Now I have a new job to look forward to, a new relationship with someone who understands me and I them. My child seems happier and we enjoy doing things together. He has settled in so well here and even has a Scottish accent now I really feel that our future is bright and positive and a whole world away from where I was 3 years ago.

All that from 'just' stopping drinking. there is no way I ever want to go back to where I was. I used to read on here people saying how their lives had changed so much when they stopped drinking. I was sceptical and thought they were exaggerating but it really is true. It doesn't happen overnight though does it - it takes months, years even.

It's nice to look back at our journeys even though I don't log on here as often now

Courage those were horrible. Just a quick driveby, work went into the silly season, weeks have been flying by. Picked up a nice straight forward project, got going, and now turns out the owner is a bit of a dick. He's positive I'm ripping him off on all the revisions they want, little maddening as I've been totally fair with him. Ah well, it's always something. Started biking a bit finally, hoping to get out golfing, but supposed to get the heat cranked up here this week so we'll see. Probably taken 6-7 strokes off my game by virtue of not being hungover every time I play, so got that going for me.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Jeez did I miss a memo or something? This place sure got quiet.

Just stopping by, not much on the go other than the usual, baseball for the tykes is over, playing a little golf when I can, still dealing with a difficult owner on a project (but the end is in sight there thankfully). Other than that, was accepted for the Civil Eng. tech program, but waitlisted for now, so we'll see how that goes, still not 100% sure I'm taking it this fall or put it off for another year, or even take it at all, was more just to open up some options in case I decide I've had enough on the contractor end of things, and switch sides to design. We'll see.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Hey gonzo -- I was just thinking about you this a.m. -- I've been really busy & sometimes I don't notice that this thread has been updated.

Hey, & if you don't like my cheesy jokes, how 'bout you provide one of your own?

Civil Engineering sounds awesome to me -- don't those people get to design tunnels & bridges? Way cool. Where's that 'wow' smiley when I want him?

-- hi, everyone! Happy Canada day, 4th of July, or whatever!

Hi Decemberites

How are you all doing? The thread really has gone pretty quiet over recent months hasn't it. Hope you are all doing well.

Courage - how are your son's wedding plans getting on? Did they decide on London?

Tam - how is work? how is the job search going?

Taz- hope you have settled in well at your new job now.

Has anyone got holidays planned? We had a week away with my mother which was lovely. We're off to Greece in october - Greek crisis pending notwithstanding.

Work is going well. I love it so much. Busy and struggling to sort out childcare for the 7 week summer hols but think I've got it sorted.

no thoughts of drinking. It really does seem so far away now. Does anyone else feel like it really is another world away? My life has changed so much since I quit, especially even in the last 12 months. Who would have thought it could have such a major effect.

Anyway thinking of you all.

Hey Ready, nice to see you!

I'm still around the forum -- daily in fact, I have my housekeeping to do, you know? Neglect it and the dustbunnies take over.

The kid is getting married Aug 7 in Switzerland then coming back to the US for a couple of months until he gets a British work visa. He has nowhere to stay in the town he'll be living in when he comes back, which is a problem that I hope he'll solve And he doesn't really know how long the visa will take to come through. I expect he's considerably stressed about everything but he's not freaking out -- yet.

O, the most important thing: I got myself a really great dress for the wedding. Now I'm just trying to decide whether or not to do something to my hair before we leave. My sister & former sponsor both say no, which makes me want to even more. Just one or two purple streaks?

Whoa! I hadn't realized that i had been gone this long, honestly! Jeez.

Where to start....

RAL, how's the new job? And you're right, the drinking seems like a lifetime ago. Everyone now and again, I'll get this feeling, "a cold wine..." and then, just like that, I remember the hangover and it's gone. It's not very frequent thankfully. How is Sam? He should be starting the 1st grade right?

Courage, I say do it! to the hair, do something fun. I'm always changing my hair, I'm at chin length at the moment. Are you excited for the wedding? And Switzerland?

Hey gonzo? How is it going up there?

I'm not looking for a job, a little while ago, I went to my boss, gave him XX is what I've done, $$ is what I've earned the company in terms of revenue and ## are the number of problems I handle. Fix it. And I got a significant increase. He really went to bat for me, I'm grateful for that. Because he did that, I'm committing to at least a year more there.

I just had my tonsils out on the 6th... i'm supposed to go back to work tomorrow, my doc told me it was a 1-2 week recovery when I'm reading online it's closer to 3-4 weeks... So I'm still in some pain and can't talk, but I see the surgeon tomorrow too. Who knows what she will say.

And I think that is about it, honestly. Work, lots of zumba and now I've added boxing and yoga and the weight is as stubborn as ever. lol But I do have muscles (I get measured and pinched every week).

I will be back! I won't take such a long break again.
