EJP way to go on day 8! I can't wait to be able to say that again.
Thanks Brynn and everyone for your support. I have to make this work this time around!
Day ones stink, and I don't want to be saying that anymore!

Day one does stink! What will you do today to keep yourself sober?

Sounds like a good plan!
We are all in the same boat...when one of us succeeds, we all succeed. I know I can't do this alone and having the encouragement and support of other addicts is invaluable.
Stay close and don't pick up today.

Thanks. After day 4 or so I started feeling a lot better, health-wise, I think that was a big reason why I was able to say no to the second glass. Had it been on day 1, 2 or 3 I might of caved in and had more. Plus I got rid of all of the alcohol in the house last weekend so nothing to come home too. When my husband drinks, he goes out and buys a single beer for himself and that's it. Booze drank and gone. As per why he has no alcohol around either.

Classypants- I am glad you stopped after one and feel good today. I think those situations are hard when it's your family and they don't realize you want to stop drinking 100 percent. it's hard to have that conversation with them.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Its hard with the in-laws, as they would ask, "do you really think you have a problem?", and then i'd probably get gossiped about, and called the alcoholic. Although, they have witnessed my drunkenness before. My MIL believes, once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic. I disagree, I think its a choice. A bad choice if you have the addicted type of personality, but still a choice. My in-laws are very judgmental, and quick to label people. So I would rather have an excuse. I know that doesn't sound very effective, so going to think and journal about it today. Decided to start writing down some stuff.

Classypants- if you are on any medicines you could just say it interacts with them so I can't have any wine! That would be true! Or say it gives me a headache! That is probably true too.

Not on any meds, but I like the headache idea. Because too much red wine gives me a bad headache the next day indeed. This is me in the morning after.

Just came back to check on my classmates - you all are awesome. We can do this.
You all are an inspiration and reading all this gives me strength.
Out to dinner tonight with husband and friends. They all drink. I am strong and can keep true to myself. I have a plan and I am in this for the long haul.
Thank you everyone.

We were at my in-laws for dinner last night and I didn't have the will power to say no thanks after a glass was poured and placed in front of me at the table. Though, on a positive note I said no to the second glass. The red alarm bells were ringing..NO!! I woke this morning hangover free, but very disappointed in myself. But, I have to be accountable. This isn't a game for me anymore. So, what I learned from this is that I have to be upfront with my in-laws next time we go for dinner and tell them right off the bat that I'm not drinking.

Welcome to all of the newcomers.

Hope you all have a wonderful day. Thanks for the support.
Saying no really is something a lot of us have trouble with - what will people think, what excuse can I give, I don't want to reveal all or make a scene...

I just say no thank you

Do you have any /water/juice/cola/soda/tea/coffee...can be a nice diffusing follow up line too.

It got a lot easier when I realised very few people care what, or if, I drink. I thought everyone else was fixated on drinking like I was but it's not so.

Welcome back Classy - good for you for stopping it there

D

It's funny the things we have time to think about now that drinking isn't goal #1....hmm...say, like....OTHER people!!!! My drinking made me incredibly selfish...duh!! I even knew I was selfish when I was drinking, but panicked at the thought of having to alter my drinking routine in order to be a little less selfish! It's a wonder anyone has anything to do with me anymore. Seriously. I thank God I chose to quit before I ruined every relationship I have.
Just one more thing to be thankful for.

Hope everyone's doing great and having a wonderful and sober Saturday evening.

Yeah what's everyone up to? I think I have a touch of the flu. Not terribly ill but slightly under the weather. I'm drinking ginger ale and watching True Detective.

Aww, kitty! I hope you feel better soon! glad you're here!

Hi Denise! Yay for you on 15 days!!
Isn't it neat how doing something peaceful and relaxing just feels like such a reward nowadays?! I created such chaos in my life while drinking....never again.

Kittycat- I hope you get to feeling better. I haven't been doing anything but running around shopping with my husband and playing on my tablet and reading magazines and books.

Denise- That's great your doing so well ...congrats on 15 days.

I should get in here as well! Day 1.

I wish I would have had the foresight to do this earlier, but 12/13/14 as a sober date has a nice ring to it!
