In for another 24hrs!! :)

SnowDawg 10-29-2014 11:12 AM

Another one for me. Went to a bar last night with a friend. I know not the best choice to hang out, but no desire for restarting my sobriety date :) They were drinking, smoking weed and making absolutely no sense in conversation.
Seattle, WA - 11:12 AM.

Getting awesome news from Maryland- Dad making insane strides in therapy, walking unassisted, all good things!!! Seriously, I am not sure how we all got through those horrible days- except I know I was a ROCK for my mom. Thank you for THIS THREAD which I clung to like a tenacious spider as I drifted through those days.

Still here, still sober, still committed. 24 more please, 4:49 PM, MA. And 70 degrees??

Signing in for 24 more on my one year sober anniversary! There was a time I thought I would never get to this point. I am so grateful to be sober, grateful for SR and the people here.

It was two years ago that I found SR, feeling hopeless, scared and alone. Not understanding what I had become or how I would ever get myself out of the situation. I found hope and understanding on this site. I found there were other people, other parents, just like me. It was life changing. I wasn't alone anymore. I joined the Nov 2012 class and started posting on this thread regularly. It took me another year of relapses to finally stay sober. I kept reading, learning, listening to advice, trying new things and changing my plan as needed, I still do that today. I've learned a lot about myself this past year. Recovery can be hard work, but it’s also been a worthwhile and rewarding journey. My alcoholism and my recovery have been very private. No one in my real life knows the details or the depths of this journey – only you all know and can understand where I’ve been, my struggles and where I’m going. So today has been a day of quite, internal reflection and celebration for me. It feels good to be able to share it with all of you. Thank you all for being here and helping me stay sober and continue to grow in recovery – 24 hours at a time :)

Counting down to Halloween night. #3: Zombies. This is where it all starts to go south. The undead. First they die. Then the physical body is reanimated by supernatural or necromantic means. Among monsters, the zombie gets high marks. Its origin is evil, unnatural, or both, and it’s relentless in its determination to destroy human beings.

The zombie brought into being by necromancy (as in Haitian zombies) has no will, is the slave of its vodou master, and invariably acts to do harm:

http://www.umich.edu/~uncanny/zonbi.jpg

The zombie that emerges spontaneously from the grave due to unknown supernatural forces has no master; its only impulse, scarcely to be called a will, is to feed on human flesh.

http://davidminortheater.com/wp-cont...iving-Dead.jpg

(Yes, I actually own a copy of that poster.) On the plus side, zombies will rip your arms off and eat your brains, but they can’t touch your soul. And you don’t have to worry about becoming a zombie, because you’ll already be dead by then, and your soul will have passed on – a zombie is just a lurching hulk of necrotic meat. So the good news is, if you’re attacked by zombies, you’re probably doomed, but not eternally. Phew!

With a different take on zombies, I’ll leave you with a link to a rather unusual video that shows things from the zombie’s POV: ASMR Whispering Zombie, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imx7k-ipLxY. Did anyone besides me never hear of ASMR before now?

Full disclosure: Sometime a year or so before I started sobering up but well before my bottom, I had a persistent delusion that I was a zombie. I’m so grateful I don’t see through undead eyes anymore!
