Thursday at the Met: I don’t have much to say about this painting, called Young Woman Drawing (1801). The artist is Marie–Denise Villers. I used to think this painting was silly. Then I started to find it comfortable, like something I could live with. Today she looks luminous to me. Has the painting changed, or….?
P.S. BarbieKen, maybe you have a favorite of your own by Diego Garcia? If you do, please share!
P.P.S. Carlotta, thanks for showing up despite food poisoning today.

Hi Courage,
I was thinking of Diego Rivera (sp?). We have a print of a little boy with blue overalls and a straw hat. IDK why but I just love that painting. Reminds me of drawings in Tomie dePaolo children's books ( another favorite). Thank you for sharing. I'm pretty clueless on how to "do" stuff on the Internet....pasting, phots etc.
I'll check in why I'm writing here....in for another 24 hours of my recovery.

OMG did I write Diego Garcia -- next it will be Jerry Rivera with the Grateful Dead. I've been spacey like this all day -- actually walked into a wall. Dizzy but not blonde.
Does this look familiar?
I tried to find out more about it but no luck so far -- I know him mostly as a muralist. I wonder if this boy is a detail from a mural?
Edit to say -- got it! It's called Retrato (portrait) de Ignacio Sanchez & was painted in 1927.
