Oh Bob, I'm so sorry. What a tremendous blow. Of course you must be in shock.
Take good care, thinking of you.

Thanks ladies,
It does help to know I have friends here.
I don't know what the future holds for me.
But, I know I need to face it sober.

I'm drinking a lot of ice coffee.
It's been my drink of choice. But, it sure gets me wired.

So sorry to hear about your job, Bob. I have been let go before and it is an awful, scary feeling, but, as my Mom always says - when one door closes another opens. Everything happens for a reason and you will come out ahead. You are strong and, most of all, you will get through this sober. We are all here for you

Bob , like the other guys say , you will be ok .

Had to chuckle over your drink of choice ! I could not live without my iced coffee each day . I have a litre , low fat ...probably riddled with sugar tho !

I just cannot give that up .

The good thing out of this for us Bob is that we will get to chat more to you

Well, the hard part is fighting off the depression about the whole thing.
I am thankful I was able to sleep last night.
Long gone are the days of working at a job till retirement.
I don't even know how to fill out a resume.

Thinking of you Bob. I don't know about where you live, but there are agencies here which cater to people over 50 who find themselves unemployed for one reason or another. They offer help with resume writing, transferable skills and so forth. Might your HR department point you in the direction of such resources?
Try not to panic, easy for me to say, I know. It must be awful. But don't lose heart.

I will have the 10 week separation pay as well as unused vacation.
Then I can collect unemployment for a year I guess.
But, it's less than working pay.

It's been a very long time since I've had to look.
Long before a house/mortgage and daughter soon to go to college.

Bob Leshar's on the money - I know in Australia there's a lot of help for 50 plus folks to write resumes, brush up on interview skills and find employment.

I think it will be worthwhile to check out if you have a similar thing in your neck of the woods?

I only got 3 hrs. of sleep last night. I'm having stomach issues now as well. My mind kept going back to the stress of being unemployed soon.
I have no plans of drinking. That would be disastrous at this point.
I'm going to take a little time to go fill out some applications next week.
Unemployment office will help as well when the time comes.

I think that's natural to be unsettled, Bob, of course.

I think having a go at some applications next week is a good idea. Being proactive helped me, but I do understand it's hard.

Some days I'd feel like I could barely breathe (so to speak), from the stress of it all and I really felt like no one understood. Worrying about money is very hard.

Hi everyone
Bob im so sorry to hear about your job, I found myself in the same position, Im 58 and will be starting a new job in 3 weeks time, I had real doubts about my age and who would want an old dear like me, but we have a lot to offer. I got help doing my cv and went on a day course, Well I was sent by the job centre, most cvs are now checked by computers, so my tip is to put on your cv any key words that are on the job description because the computer programme will pick out you may be a good match.set aside time each day to job search even weekends, get dressed im afraid I had real slobby days and didnt go out much and ended up depressed so don't do what I did lol

Ive lost count my af days think its 91, my av now calmed down and is not screaming at me, alls well in my world x

Good to see you aw!

Good luck with the job if we don't see you around close to then. Would love to hear how it goes!

If you want to see how many sober days you have, go to this link and pop on your sober date;

SoberRecovery : Sober Time Sobriety Calculator

Leshar....hope the rehearsals are going well. Did they ever resolve the correct pronunciation of Genoa?

Snoozy....hope your results are ok.

Hi all, quick check in. Croissant, yes, the director agreed with the correct pronunciation but last night at dress rehearsal, a couple of people pronounced it incorrectly, nerves, I guess. We had two press critics in attendance.
Tonight is a run with an invited audience, then we open on Friday!
We're all tired, haven't finished until nearly midnight so far this week.
We don't expect "big chookas" for a summer play, but it will be interesting for me to see how I do with a real audience!

Bob, hope you're sleeping a bit better.
Nice to see a post from you aw!

Oh good...things are getting exciting, Leshar.

Late nights indeed. Hope you are getting some sleep. Has that all settled down now?

Well, I'm off to bed now....have a lovely day.

I'm watching a little football and trying to forget my troubles for a while.
I slept better last night.
