This To Shall Pass
Sometimes life does not turn out as we plan. There are times in life when
it’s easy to feel defeated and just give up and decide to walk through life
aimlessly like most people do.
I mean, what’s the point right? I am going through such a time. This little demon
is telling me what's the point, that's my Bi-polar and my addictive voice talking.
But I will not fall for it. Those are feelings. Feelings are not fact!
Everyone goes through times like these at one point or another. Remember that
life isn’t a straight line.
We ARE going to have ups and downs. But we just have to hold on.
I use the motto "This to shall pass", and it always does.
I am not crazy about the way I am feeling right now about a family situation.
But whatever feelings I am having always pass, good or bad. So I know that if I just
ride it out and not react to these bad feelings by picking up that eventually I won't be
feeling this way in a short time anymore.
Instead of reacting the way I have in the past to bad feelings, I can skip all the anger,
resentments and all those feelings by just stepping back and totally detaching.
Why? Because I know they are going to pass, so why waste my emotional well being on
something I am going to forget all about 2 months from now.
I am powerless over a situation. And we really are powerless over other people.
Probably the most difficult people we have to deal with are members of our own
family.
As alcoholics and or addicts we hate being the least bit uncomfortable. We want
to run to the drink or drug as soon as we are feeling bad so we can feel different.
Recovery is learning about how to respond to life and not react. Taking pause.
Thinking before we make our next move. Viewing life from a different perspective.
I don't have it down, but I am getting better. Things do not consume me as long a time
as they did in the past. I am not as willing to give up my peace for anything.
If you are having a rough day, trust me I understand, those feelings will pass but the
consequences of picking up a drink or drug may follow you for a very long time.
So let's ride those feelings out, they will pass! Let's keep our minds busy with
other things and just like the booze or drugs, we don't entertain those bad
feelings either.
After all they are just feelings and often feelings are not fact.
