4 Months On

4 months today of 'Sobriety Notoriety', as I like to call it. Lovin' Life.

Saw a really good Rockabilly Band last Friday night and enjoyed re-tooling my presence into 'being in the moment' sober. A few nights ago, that question came up over Dinner with another Couple [all drinking Vodka Tonics at their House prior, and then more over Dinner]: had I quit drinking? The affirmative answer rolled off my Lips. The Gal Pal doing the asking told me [laughing] what I already knew: she's just nosey. She thought this change was just super, and related how her Ex- was a Binge-er. He could go w/o for a while, and then just couldn't stop drinking once he started up. Ah, dat ole First Drink phenom we know so well. I find that framing my answer clarifies my thinking, and causes me to re-commit right out loud.

I did some really frustrating Plumbing while putting in a Whole House Water Filter to civilize our Well Water. Man, if there was ever a day to hit it again, last Wednesday was it! But, I just sat outside afterwards with Steam coming out my Ears and chilled my AV while taking in Ma Nature. I got after some 'weeping' Plumbing connections the next day. Almost done with that part of this Retirement House.

Soldier on everybody!

Hi, just back from my out of town meeting. Wow! The same but just different. I got asked to chair. God I panicked a bit but just relaxed and let it out. I found listening to others sharing was exhausting. I started crying during one persons share. The guy I travelled with called it association. I associated with his story.

I have a greater understanding of the depth of the hole I was in. How far I had fallen and how terminal this illness is.

Congratulations on four months Finnie, Abcowboy, Mesaman and Marymacsmith, well done!

Thanks for the update on the meeting Finnie, I hope that you find a new home group.

For mother's day, I sent my mom a lovely gift basket from Wine Country and a gift card. My son was surprised! I told him that she isn't an alcoholic, I am! She really isn't, she enjoys a glass of sweet wine now and then and that is that. My sisters are actually having a sleep over at her house tomorrow, going out to dinner and then back home for movies. I was invited, but I know that they will all enjoy a glass of wine or two, so I declined and wished them all a lovely time. I don't hesitate to let them know that my off switch is defective, so I'm avoiding trigger situations. Funny, I really don't mind passing on the evening, protecting my sobriety is more important at this stage.

Congratulations on four months to all of you! I think that's what's really neat about this group and sticking together - we have these awesome waves of milestones. It's really inspiring.

Finnie - I'm glad you had a good experience with a different meeting. Odelle - great job setting boundaries.

Happy Saturday, all.

Thank you for all the congrats. Ironically today I had a real close call. A simple situation life throws at you to most, not to an alcoholic though. I was at the beauty shop around 10:00 am. One of the stylist was singing praises about plum wine. She was describing how it tasted, felt going in etc. She then got a half a bottle from the back and poured everyone a sample. I took the cup she handed me. No one at the shop knows of my relationship with alcohol. I was holding the cup as AV on one shoulder was whispering to me, that its only one time, and such a small amount, and SR on the other shoulder reminding me just one is the beginning of the end. Happy to say SR won. I told my hair dresser I had not eaten yet, so she could have my share. She very gladly took it. Whew, that was close.

Very good decision on your part. Good going! We'll all be tempted from time to time as situations come and go. I have a business where having a drink afterwards was the norm. I'll have to change my mindset on that now that I'm back home and back in business.

Congrats to anyone sober today.

Have a wonderful weekend especially the moms out there.
