Start of another working week Down Under: though I retired way back.
For me a good start for Mondays is my 10 o'clock Big Book meeting.
Another 24 of those sane, safe, sensible hours please Deeks.....

On my first day back to SR in February, LindaLou responded to my post on the newcomers page recommending I post daily in this thread. Every day since then I've come here. Those first few weeks I couldn't imagine my life without drinking, but I kept coming back and recommitted each day. When I slipped, Deeker put out her hand to help me back up, and I recommitted each day, again. Now, some six weeks after that first 24 hour commitment in February, I can't imagine drinking. I come here everyday to be a part of this community commitment to sobriety, to reflect on Deeker's advice, which is always relevant to my journey, and to show newcomers that they can build their sober time 24 hours at a time. I am a changed person because of the commitment of volunteers & mentors like Deek! <3

In for 24 more at 5:24 pm est.

I am not using , how come I am not happy 24/7?

Have some of us asked ourselves this question?

I believe it is because recovery is more than just laying down the drink and drug.

Here is a list of reasons my life was and is still often unmanageable and why I am
not always happy..

Recovery requires Change. If nothing changes then nothing changes.

I have changed many of these behaviors and then some of them are just blaring
defects that I need to really work on and others continue to pop up from time
to time.

Things like.....

Feeling like a victim. Making excuses. Lashing out at others when I am feeling bad.
Holding onto resentments and grudges. Blaming others to make myself look better.

Playing God.

Trying to control people and situations by forcing my will. Expecting others to do it
my way. Being manipulative.

Ranting and raving, cursing and threatening, Passing judgment. Over reacting to
petty little things. Whining. Pouting, sulking and giving the silent treatment.

Ignoring others’ feelings and needs. Being Rude when someone is rude to me

Being to needy. Procrastinating. Lying or witholding the truth.

Looking for pity. Beating up on myself/acting hopeless

Lacking faith and trust in God. Over eating.

Apologizing only to ease my own guilty conscience or to get out of trouble

There is not a day that goes by when some of these behaviors don't jump out
in my life. Now notice, these are not feelings, these are behaviors.

Having feelings of sadness, anger, resentment, hoplessness etc is normal. And it
takes time to get through those feelings.

It is how we react to these feelings that can be a problem.

My old behaviors did not disappear when I put down the drink and drug. Recovery
has required me to do a daily self examination of behaviors that I often justified
drinking over in the past. Behaviors are so hard to change.

The first step for me is recognizing those behaviors.

Drinking and drugging was a symptom of something deeper going on. Most
of it having to do with selfishness, self centeredness and being self obsessed.

Recovery for me is about finding out what those things are and discarding
them. Learning new ways to cope with my feelings and having a different
perpsective.

Will it ever end? I highly doubt it. But when we have these little revelations, it is a
huge step in the direction of growing up mentally and emotionally.

Are we ready to take a deeper look at our behaviors?

Just wanted to tell gleefan that her success has about 1% to do with me and 99% to do with her positive attitude and willingness to commit each day to her recovery. She is making recovery a priority!

We are all proud of you gleefan! Thanks for your kind words, but you are doing this!

24 Hour Club Sign up Sheet Part 46, All Are Welcome!

Top O' the Morning to you! So glad you made your way to the 24 hour club. Hope you are wearing
your green. Irish for a day!

Join us Lads and Lasses for another 24 hours clean and sober. I know you can do it! Remember that
even though this is a Holiday, it is no excuse to throw away our sobriety.

Millions of people are going to be sick as a dog Tuesday morning, I wouldn't be surprised if a whole bunch
of people check into SR on Tuesday.

Unfortunately we will lose quite a few too.

We don't have to be one of them and we can be here to encourage them when and hopefully if they
come back.

Post your local time and commit. Post only once daily as this is mainly a sign up sheet which will make
up our final roster. Thank You!

St. Patrick's Day

Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe
St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland
has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing,
special foods and a whole lot of green.

Irish joke

Look to The Moon

Paddy and Seamus were walking home from the pub. Paddy says to Seamus, 'What a
beautiful night, look at the moon.'

Seamus stops and looks at Paddy, 'You are wrong, that's not the moon, that's the
sun.' Both started arguing for a while when they come upon a man who appeared to be
drunk walking in the other direction, so they stopped him.

'Sir, could you please help settle our argument?

Tell us what that thing is up in the sky that's shining. Is it the moon or the sun?' The
drunk looked at the sky and then looked at them, and said,

'Sorry, I don't live around here.

Let's commit to staying away from the Green Beer this year. How about starting
a new Tradition.

Shamrock Punch

Ingredients:
1 quart of lime or lemon sherbet
1 cup of lime juice
1 half cup of cold water
2 liters of lemon-lime soda
Lime wedges

Directions

Pour lime juice and water into a punch bowl. Add sherbet, and stir the punch until
it reaches a smooth consistency. Slowly pour lemon-lime soda into the mixture,
stirring constantly. Pour the drinks over crushed ice, and garnish them with lime
wedges.

Have Fun but let's make the right choice and wake up with no guilt shame and remorse.

Are you in?

*Song For The Day - ANDY WILLIAMS - DANNY BOY

Prayers that everyone makes the right decision this St Patrick's Day!
