The following are some excerpts of a post I found on another thread. It was written by
JoeNerv and he has given me permission to repost it.

At one time JoeNerv suffered from Social anxiety but accepted that he would have to
step out of his comfort zone to receive help.

He became willing to do what he needed to do. He now has over 29 yrs clean and sober!
Way to go JoeNerv!

Willingness

Willingness to me means doing what feels uncomfortable. It means doing things I don't
want to do. It means surrendering all the things I think I know, and opening my mind to
what others have to say.

It means trying my best to put into action things others say worked for them, whether I
think they will help or not. And it meant in the beginning knowing that I really didn't
know what was best for me.

I hear a lot of people say "I can't", "I won't", "That's not who I am", "I'm not comfortable
with that", and a million other things along those lines. I wasn't comfortable with a single
thing I did my first 6 months sober. Especially going to AA.

But I was willing.

Over time, things changed. It took me over 2 years to be completely rid of the agoraphobia,
but things got a tiny little bit better every day. I prayed for the strength to keep putting one
foot in front of the other, and was granted that strength.

The fear and uncomfortability wasn't immediately taken away, but time healed...
