along with new clarity

I'm becoming the
person I long suspected
I have always been

What would my story
be if I had never learned
to numb emotion

Would the terror and
pain have consumed me like a
mouse in a snake cage

I really doubt it
beauty and love far outweigh
ugliness and fear

If I told the world
what I am telling you now
would I disappear

Would I burst in flames
and disperse in a puff of smoke
into a cruel sky

Or would an embrace
squeeze my exposed heart and in
my eyes draw blood tears

I will never know
and it doesn't matter now
because I am here
