I may be crazy but along with giving up alcohol, I thought I'd become vegetarian and start working out too. I figure that if I'm obsessing about new recipes and ways to eat healthy and avoid sugar, fat and crap then I won't think about drinking. I have a new membership to the YMCA and I'm really excited -- I did think it might be nuts to try to change everything at once, but you know what, taking baby steps never worked for me so maybe this will. ALl that to say, if you're eating lots of veggies, you don't have to worry about packing on the pounds so much.

The last time I quit I switched my addiction to eating better and taking care of myself. Ended up losing somewhere around 60 pounds. I have gained most of that back 12 ounces at a time.

If you find some good veggie recipes send them over. I tried roasting, grilling, and stir-frying today trying to find some good recipes.

Frugal14, I am doing the same. I am thinking of it as a "prescription for life." I want to exercise six days a week and eat healthy. I ordered several nutritarian cookbooks and want to cook my way healthy as a way to keep my mind off of abusing substances. We can do this!

Fitness, Health, and Nutrition - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information
First post here. I come from a family of alcoholics and drug addicts and hope to break the cycle. Been trying to quit for a while now but keep relapsing. I am determined to make it -- I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired -- and hope this forum will be a source of inspiration and support. Cheers.
