Carrying The Message
Sometimes we may want to really help another alcoholic or
addict especially when we may feel we have found a solution
ourselves.
Especially when we have known the pain of our own addiction.
We can encourage them, pray with them, share our experience,
strength and hope with them but unless they are willing to stop,
and try a new way we just can't make them want this.
It is terribly sad that some of us will indeed go to the bitter ends
known as Jails, Institution and even Death. Addiction is serious ,
progressive and can be fatal. That certainly was my path. And it
still could be if I am not vigilant in my recovery.
But dying would be an easy way out, it is the living in constant
pain and turmoil that is the worst.
If you all could see just how many people I have seen come
through the 24 hour club in the last 5 months and stay a week
or 2 tops. It is heartbreaking.
And to imagine how many people our administrators have seen
come and go over the years.
When I finally became ready after 30 something years in and
out of recovery, I finally had enough. The pain of using was
greater than the pain of not using.
If someone told me standing on my head in Time Square would
help me get and stay clean and sober I would have done it.
Gratefully the solution they had in mind was pretty painless compared
to the life I was living.
My ego has made me believe I could say some magical thing to
a newcomer to make them want to get and stay clean and sober.
Not gonna lie, it still makes me think that sometimes. Cuz I really
hope I can. It's hard watching people relapse over and over again.
I have been there and not so long ago.
Maybe I can't but what I do want to say to them is that it
doesn't have to be this way anymore.
That I have found a way that works one day at a time. And it
wasn't that long ago that I was also desperate and felt hopeless.
That others have also found a way . I want them to find the way.
I pray they will become ready before it is to late.
Till they are I have to trust God to keep them safe until they are truly
ready.
Many may not ever be ready but there will always be one. There
will always be one to encourage.
Are we truly ready today?

I'm in today. Stressful Monday. Going to make my 8 mths if it kills me. Which is strange really because if for some reason I fall and don't make 8 mths that'll definitely kill me!
