Mmm Curry is my all time favorite! Save us all some eh?

Checking in from a rainy England here on day 3, looking forward to another sober day. Take care all!

Day 2 here and feeling much better than yesterday. Was pretty down in the dumps last night over messing up halfway through day 15. Just have to remember how good I felt those first 14 days and repeat the cycle (minus the messing up part).

NewatThis--I so know what you mean about watching how much wine is left. I do that too, even when I'm just drinking by myself. Always looking at the glass (or bottle) as half-empty already.

It's raining here today. Going to go the the gym finally (never made it yesterday because my stomach was still so messed up from the night before). Oh well. Today is a new day!

Happy Sober Saturday, SR friends!

Day 6 and still clean and sober! Its getting a little easier now that the withdrawls are starting to go away. Ive been having lot of dreams now that Im sleeping more, for a while there I never had dreams due to being passed out drunk.

If I can do this so can you!

Great to see you Raja! Great job Pamel! Get that momentum going Welcome to all the newbies and congratulations to everyone who made it through Friday sober!

I just got a text from a friend, she's not a super close friend, but she's definitely more than an acquaintance. I sort of took the coward's way out and asked my best friend to spread the word I quit drinking for me so I wouldn't have to explain myself. So it finally got to this friend and she texted me just now and said she used to be an addiction counselor (she probably told me but I was blackout drunk) and she offered her support 24 hrs. She said any time I feel like drinking I could call her and if I decided to go to meetings she said she would go with me so I wouldn't have to go alone. Bless her little baby heart. I just want to drive across town, ring her doorbell and kiss her on the face. I'm so lucky to have such supportive friends, and supportive friends of friends! Now the pressure is really on not to relapse though. I mean, if I drink now it will be because I chose not to take the help that is literally thrown at me from all directions.

Here's a crazy feeling that comes along with everyone you know cheering you on to sobriety: humiliation. How bad was I that out of all the people I've told (or who've heard) that I quit drinking, only my sister asked why? People who see me all the time, friends and acquaintances say "That's so wonderful! I'm always here if you need me!" That just goes to show what a ridiculous drunk I must have been. For a long time. So now I'm actually embarrassed again. I'm sure this period of near constant humiliation passes, and I can't wait to get there!

Have a great Saturday, class! I hope everyone is feeling happy and healthy today

Getting through day 7 here. Kids are gone and I'm thinking, "how about just one six pack?" Really fighting the urge to go and get one. Thanks for all your inspiration that's keeping me home right now.

It's day 4 for me and my first post on here. I'm really glad to have found this site and see how many others are taking on recovery this August.

WminFL--Congratulations on seven days! Have you seen the thread in newcomers about staying sober through weekend? (Forgive me if you did and already posted there). If not, check it out. It's helped me today to see that there are so many people out there on SR focusing on the day by day.

Hi Team. Day 15 for me, and I think I need to take the next step over the coming week and ween off the filthy cigarettes.

Pamel - there's booze on regular trains where you are ? That's crazy. The closest that my city ever got to this was beers on the harbour ferry in the 1980's, but has long ago stopped.

Zoe - how about a recipe for your signature curry I used to be a keen cook, but after years of drinking I just abandoned the urge to do anything but nurse a hangover on my days off, however I'm getting back into the kitchen slowly & surely. Today I'm trying my hand at making sausages (links, weiners, to the USA readers).

Entering day 7! I NEVER NEVER thought I had the strength to make it this far let alone 24 hours but with everyones help and support here we are, 1 week dry!

Keep your mind and body busy and your cravings will slowly go away. An idle mind and body will lead you right back to the bottle. Read a book, paint a room, rearrange your home, do yard work, go for a walk, go to your local animal shelter and volunteer time what ever you do just keep busy! and....having a chocolate bar near bye also helps with cravings, really! I've been drinking tea all week and that's been giving me a new peace within my self, dont ask me why, but it calms me and reduces my cravings.

Tomorrow I have the day planned from yard work to cleaning the house and cupboards, ugh. Then off to see a movie, something I haven't done in 3 years and I used to love gong to see a movie. 3 years.... I won't slip back into that person again, I missed out on too much and I have a lot of catching up to do. Be sure and forgive yourself as well as anyone you may have hurt, the weight of coming clean is an amazing thing!

Hang tough people, we can do this! YOU can do this!

Peace and Love from Arizona!

Rick

Good on you, Rick. It must feel like quite an achievement.

In ridding my life of the bad crap I subject myself to, I have decided that after two weeks off the booze that it's time to give up the cigarettes. I just smoked my last one a short time ago.

Day 8,

Up early and starting work on an essay for an on-line course I am doing. This course is really helping to engage my mind and keep me busy, anyone interested check out www.coursera.org. Loads of different courses and all free!!

Guests still here and found last night easy too without booze. There are two half empty bottles still in the kitchen - seems you don't have to finish a bottle once you open it - who knew?! We had fun making fresh pasta, something I don't think I would have done if I had been drinking. Sorry if I'm boring you all with these constant comparisons between a drinking night versus a non but I find it helps me re-inforce that socialising is possible and enjoyable without booze. We alcoholics are so immature and un-evolved in many ways.

Today was my mother's birthday, she would have been 60. Going to dedicate this day of sobriety to her.

Woo-hoo Rick! Nice work.

TKS, I'm with you on kicking the cigarettes. That's my next challenge.

Way late central time USA here, going to bed. Tomorrow (or technically today) will be day 3 . See y'all tomorrow

TKS,

Cigarettes are the devil TKS. It seems like a terribly difficult addiction to quit, I've never smoked so can't claim any experience but I've watched others struggle to stop. My mum actually died from lung cancer so I admit I'm a militant anti-smoker. Best of luck to you!

Newatthis--you are not boring us at all. Details on how life is better all around when we're sober are inspirational. Blessings to your mom. That's a really nice way to celebrate her birthday.

Newatthis, thanks so much for that free course link. This sort of thing is exactly what I'll need to occupy myself over the coming months. I have enrolled for a course in September

Newatthis, your posts are interesting, and i have the same things going through my head too. We went out with friends for dinner last night, and my wife and friends drank i was on coke. It went well, i was pleased with myself by the end of the night, then went to bed with wife for a change when we got back for 11pm. In the past i'd stay up drinking sat at PC whilst wife would go to bed. On a sat that could be till 2am or worse. Instead i'm up at 8am for a shower and a cuppa .
