Fun In Sobriety
Will we ever have fun in sobriety?
You better believe it! If you are new you may not believe that but if you have been clean and sober for awhile you know it's true.
When you begin to get clean and sober for a little while, you begin to wake up realizing that you no longer feel guilt. It doesn't consume your ever waking moment.
You will begin to enjoy simple things and feel exhilarated at times. Your energy comes back.
You begin to not take life so seriously. You realize that you have already been to hell and back and that nothing that happens clean and sober could ever be that bad.
You begin to have choices. Choices over who you want to be around, where you want to go. You are no longer limited wondering if there will be enough alcohol or drugs to get you through.
You actually begin to enjoy a meal and the simplest things in life.
You start to lighten up and you will find yourself smiling one day and realizing that you actually feel pretty good and you haven't thought about a drink or drug for a week or even a month.
You come to realize that you can make promises and actually keep them to your loved ones.
You begin to feel good cuz you can be trusted and be counted on.
Then one day you find yourself laughing at something really silly and you realize that you haven't laughed that hard in a very long time. Your natural endorphins kick in. You begin feeling free.
Next thing you know you have the radio on and you are dancing in front of the mirror and thinking to yourself Wow I am doing it, I am staying clean and sober and they were right. I am loving it. I am enjoying being me. It's really gonna be ok.
And you look back on that life as a place you never want to revisit and you become grateful everyday that you hung in there through the tough times.
The longer you are clean and sober you gain faith and realize that whatever you are going through today is gonna be ok, cuz you can look back at hard times you got through in the past or maybe you don't even remember the crisis that was bothering you 6 months ago, but it all worked out cuz you stayed clean and sober.
Then you realize that you no longer care what people think about you and that you have been living your life seeking the approval of others and worrying how you looked to others and it was holding you back from truly being yourself. From being a goofball.
You are set free and then you DANCE....

Bobbi here, 10:47pm and checking in for another 24. Deeker I loved the Footloose post today! Kevin Bacon (right?) movin & shakin baby! Big Book Study this morning, we finished the first 103 pages. Who knew that all these pages were devoted to Step 1, and The Doctor's Opinion? My fellows and I have the BEST teacher, IMHO. I also went to another Marathon Meeting afterwards. I 'd recommend attending to anyone who is fortunate to have them in your area. Turns out I am not alone in this journey. :-D
10.58 in North West U.K
Checking in early in case I don't have time later, 24 more please.

Just for today I will I will be unafraid.
Especially I will not be afraid to notice
what is beautiful and to believe that as I
give to the world, so the world will give to
me
