Phew, ok, into day 4. Going ok, took a big step yesterday, I went to my best friends and drinking buddies, I told them the news of going sober, it was a tough time, but you know what, like the true friends they are, they sat, listened and then said that they would do anything to help me. I told them what I needed from them and they agreed.
This for me was huge, I did not want to loose my friends,
But I knew the effect they could potentially have in my sobriety.

Sorry to hear about your computer Deeker.
Just so people don't get the wrong idea - we don't allow fundraising here on SR.
There's obvious reasons for this.
thanks

Hey Gilmer!WB
Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself,
and know that everything in life has purpose.
There are no mistakes, no coincidences,
all events are blessings given to us to learn from.
- Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
It took me awhile to believe this quote for myself but I did finally come to a place of realizing that my past, my addictions, and the consequences made me who I am today.
Today Because I am an addict/alcoholic I have compassion for alcoholic/addicts
Today because I have been in jail 7 times, I have am able to relate to people who have been in jail with compassion and understanding(that never would have happened in the past)
Today because I had lost everything and was living in poverty on food stamps I have compassion for people who are homeless and in need.
Today because I was in a nursing home paralyzed , I now have more compassion for people who are in wheelchairs.
How many times have I walked past a person in a wheelchair and pretended they weren't even there like they were not real people or something.
Today because I have spent a great deal of time in psych wards I have more patience and understanding of people with mental illnesses.
And how about the whole medical community who saw my drunk a** showing up at Hospitals every couple months. I now have great respect for them.
And then there is the police department, to think they deal with my kind on a daily basis. Whole lotta respect for them now too.
I have compassion for the worn down wives and husbands and children who put up with our unfufilled promises to stop day after day.
Soo... Don't think nothing good can not come out of your past. It may be just the thing you needed to gain a little perspective on life.
I bet if this old car could speak below that it never thought it could be so beautiful!! That will be us too!

Here's to Another 24 Hours! Woohooo!!
8:00 A.M in S.C. Sober since March 11th 2013 it has not been easy but each day gets a little easier. I take a deep breath and say " I will not drink Today. " I try to take it one day a a time. So far checking in here and telling myself this every day has been working for me.
