Thanks Chanty, yes I'm to hungover to do anything else at the moment. Looking forward to getting some days sober so I can try to see things more clearly. Can't go to bed yet waiting for my son to come home from Scouts.
welcome to all the new members, new faces and old
I still not really sure I understand why I drank Jim - but it's not necessary to understand it to stop it, so that's a blessing.
Throw everything you have at it guys - I really believe the more effort we put in, the more rewards we get out

Hey all! It's day 5 for me and I am hanging in there. Husband called and wanted to go to happy hour before kid's baseball game with some other parents. I said, "Dude, you know I am not drinking right now." So, he says, "Well, I know you haven't drank all week which is good but I did not think you meant the weekend too! What about St Patrick's Day?" I told him I don't know what will happen by St Patrick's Day but today I am not drinking.
I'm going to go out to the barn and brush some hairy horses, clean some stalls, the chicken coop, and NOT go to happy hour or the game. My son cannot play now anyway due to an injury.
Good luck to everyone today. March Madness begins!!!

I'm going to sign off for the evening after this post. Some of you I've run across before and others are new to me. Just to give you a tiny bit of background, I'm an "old lady" with a not so old heart ;-). Maxine is probably a good avatar for me! I've had about 3 stretches of drinking time over the years and 4 fairly lengthy sober stretches. But the reality is that I am an alcoholic. I've managed to learn some coping skills and understand why I drink and mostly how my head works. Now I'm trying to deal with the AV (alcoholic voice) otherwise known as "the beast" -- described by Jack Trimpey as a blind and dumb gender-less creature who tries to help us rationalize having a drink. I've probably heard all of its excuses!
I feel it helps a lot to share our adventures in overcoming this nasty addiction and our very kind moderator, Dee, is a man of few words but they are all worth listening to. I've sometimes disagreed with him but ultimately discover that he knows whereof he speaks :-)
I hope we can all help each other on this challenging journey and I know I'll enjoy getting to know you all better.
Sassy

wow, I just ate a ginormous dinner! But since when i drink I don't usually eat I'm sure it's fine. Better use of calories for sure. I'm not even really full-already thinking about a snack.
but day 1 is nearly over with. May it be my last day 1 ever.
Sassy: thanks for your story and I love your avatar.
JimUk and Soberformyson: well done on day 1--we're onto day 2 already.
eveybody else--lets all hang in this together.

Chanty-my husband said "you don't need to quit drinking, you just don't need to win the blue ribbon for it every time."
Wow, for the first time in a long time I will wake up on a Saturday morning and actually not have a hangover!

With so many tries, it feels like I already know what to expect. I think I need to look out for more learning lessons this time. I'm glad I'm in this class. At least one goal would be to post more often. Express myself more.
