CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 9 MONTHS MILESTONE, YOU-ROCK!!!

Mammoth is performing a massive, pool-emptying cannonball dive in celebration of your incredibly inspirational sober accomplishment! I am so proud of you, my solid Rocker buddy! Much love to you.

Good morning, Mayans!

Another beautiful, sunny day here in the frozen north ;-)

Rock, good buddy, congratulations on 9 months!!! Woo-Hoo!

Soleil, great to hear from you and nice to hear you have a vacation coming up.

FP, Mammoth's swimming attire is positively priceless. "pool-emptying" is so appropriate :-)

Jeni, you have come so far! That dark place will eventually lighten up as you keep working on it. There's no timetable so whatever pace is comfortable for you is ok. (((hugs))). A friend described the process as "going from victim to survivor and then to truly heal, going from survivor to victor".

Kittycat, very wise thoughts. I enjoy seeing how you have changed over the months we've been here.

Bloss, I slept well last night! I hope you did, too.

Hope everyone is doing well at whatever time of day it is for you.

AFM- doing well. The increasing sunshine is helping a lot. I'm also now seriously digging into SMART Recovery, especially working on my motivation exercises. Dee, as you have told me many times, it's about what I need to add to the mix to make this work for me. I personally prefer this approach to AA but each of us finds our own best method or combination of methods to get us through this. I plan to stay with this amazing and supportive group and at the same time avail myself of these other tools to help me along this so important journey.

Xoxo

HRB - Congratulations on 9 months of sobriety:day1:day6 You truly serve as a inspiraton to us all.

FP- I am so sorry to hear that they are overloading you at work.

I am still struggling with getting heaches and incapacitating fatigue which has me feeling pretty down. I visited the doctor and he wasn't any help at all.

Tanja I'm sorry to hear of your struggles and that the doctor wasn't any help. That us very disappointing. Have you considered looking into any alternative medical practices like a chiropractor or acupuncture? I just wish you didn't have to deal with this. You're doing so well staying sober and deserve to reap the benefits of all your hard work. Big hugs to you.

FP I have to apologize to you. I think we post at opposite points in our day. And by the time I finally get around to posting, yours is always a page back. So I feel like I don't often give you a personal shout out. But Tanjas post reminded me you had said you were getting slammed by work and I'm sorry to hear that. Will it affect the orchestra practices etc? I hope not. We all need something that makes us happy and work should not encroach on that. We gotta work to live, not live to work. So I hope it's either temporary or manageable. Definitely vent here if needed.

Saskia I'm glad to hear you are hitting the smart recovery hard! Is that the one the AV comes from? Or what does that entail? I hear you on the frozen tundra lately! I can't wait for some warmth!

Morning Mayans

I did sleep better last night, not perfect, but good enough. Usual Tuesday, trying to balance activites, eating patterns and so on. Hoping it will improve my mood and sleep. All so vital for sobriety (in my experience). I've been using my kindle to download some recovery related material. Just adding to my tools of recovery, I'll take all the help I can get.

HRB: Congratulations 9 months!!

:day6

Saskia: Glad you are doing well and adding helpful tools for your journey. I'm looking over my Smart Manual, good insights.

Tanja: Sorry to hear the Dr. visit did not help more. Hopefully, you will find a doctor who will listen and respond to your needs.

F.P., Jeni, Kittycat, Soleil, OLL, everyone I missed

Have a nice day
Bloss

OLL, the AV comes from Rational Recovery and originally SMART was associated with RR. However, apparently when RR became narrower in focus, SMART went their own way. SMART uses behavioral approaches such as exercises to help boost motivation as a first step. They also have a forum with multiple threads and they suggest a check-in every day. It's not limited to alcohol and drug abuse but applies to just about any kind of addiction. Instead of the concept of being powerless, they talk about the opposite. They have a variety of tools to help those with addictions to get past them. They don't claim to have more success than other methods. They don't agree with defining ourselves as alcoholics or whatever but encourage us to use their tools to work on our addictions. If there are no local meetings, the on-line meetings will do. They don't seem to consider it a "life-long" program. I think that since we are all different, different programs may work better for each of us.

Frozen tundra is about what it seems like these days. I can't wait for Spring :-)

Hello Mayans,
Thank you all so much for helping me celebrate 9 months. I am feeling very good about things lately. Been working very hard on trying to get out to do more things. I’ve also been exercising more. Just went for a 7 mile jog tonight. Good thing too because I went out to dinner with my 2 best friends and had some amazing Korean food. I am loving this hour extra sunlight we are getting! Spring is coming

FP, Awesome pic! Its funny you talk about getting signed up for committees. I was whining about the one I just got assigned to. But FOUR!!!! That’s just wrong! Way to go passing up the booze temptations in the casino and having a great time you’re your former colleagues.

Jeni, Glad to hear family life is brilliant and that work is getting better. Wishing you strength dealing with the inner pain. I know we all have demons to deal with and that being sober will allow us to do it. We all have our own timeline and I think you are doing great taking these new steps toward happiness.

OLL, Sounds like you have gotten quite a bit done on the house. I hope you have some time soon to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Sorry to hear about the anxiety. Downtime is so very important. Maybe scheduling and doing some things that make you enjoy life need to be added to your weekly schedule. I know it seemed like we would have so much more time when we got sober, but the time did not really materialize. I’m having some trouble with this and found I can’t do it all. I am trying to accept it, but still feel guilty, especially about my lack of posting on here as much as I would like.

Sassy, The SMART program sounds very helpful. I think you are spot on about this awesome group and adding other tools to the foundation we have here. Together we will beat this thing. I do not think we are powerless at all… at least until we pick up that first drink. So we must search for and add whichever tools work in keeping alcohol out of our life. You sound awesome and powerful.

Kitty, I was working during the super bowl, but I you-tubed Beyonce’s show and was blown away! How will they ever top that? You sound really good, sobriety is looking very good on you!

Bloss, Glad to hear you are looking at some more tools to add to recovery. I am finding that exercise and finding some fun things to do has really helped me. I think my recent vacation had a big affect as well.

Tanja, My friend, I am so in awe of your sober resolve. You have such strength and grace. Sorry to hear about the fatigue and headaches. Remember doctors are not infallible and if you do not think you were assessed properly then a second opinion may be in order. Please know I am thinking about you and wishing you health and happiness.

Dee, I hope you are feeling better and back to 100%. You are a very treasured member of our group here. I would guess every class would say that. Thank you so much for all you have done for us.

Lee, I hope you are sleeping better and that work is going well. Yes, Education is a very tough field. I think it is so hard when you take work home with you. I am very lucky in that I can leave work and hand it over to someone else. When I leave it rarely follows me. But man is it tough while I’m there!

Soleil, So glad to hear from you. Have a wonderful vacation.

Em, I am thinking of you and miss your wonderful posts.

SoberJane, Congrats on 30 days!

And to everyone else who has made this group of Mayans so awesome, please check in to let us know you are ok. Lots of love to you all.
