hi to all the people from the class of January 2012! it's been awhile since I posted on here but I'd like to check in and say that I haven't taken a sip of alcohol in one year!!! and I'm seriously pumped about that and about the fact that I have my life back.
life is different in mostly good ways. my habits have changed as well as how I spend my time. have gained a ton of perspective as well on alcohol and humans. being around social drinking isn't at all a problem now but being around people who are getting hammered is just something I can't tolerate, not because of the temptation but because I hate how the conversations get dumber and dumber as the hours pass. it's very interesting to be able to see the process from the other side now.
in 2 1/2 months I will have my regular drivers license back. I'm now volunteering in a homeless shelter a few times each month and I'm steady going to church as best I can. got serious about my finances also and banked over $14,000 in 2012.
life isn't magically fantastic without alcohol but it sure does make figuring out your life a hell of a lot easier.
thank you so much everyone that gave me kind words and encouragement on this forum and happy New Years to all!

thank you Dee. it's actually been kind of an emotional day as I sit and think back on the tailspin I was in this time last year. and after a year I don't feel the need to say "I quit drinking". I'll now just say "I don't drink".
all that was a former life.

Limbo, THANK YOU so much for your post!
It was a much needed reminder of how unromantic our addiction really was.
Your description of hiding, sipping, being miserable b/c it wasn't enough...Wow, how many times I did that.
You are right, WE ARE FREE!!!!!

I love you guys!
Have the Happiest of New Years Yet!

Happy, healthy, fabulous, soberlicious, rockin new year to my SR family. Billy , I love that - our second year of sober living! I told my daughter, who is also sober, last night that in 13 days I will have one whole year without alcohol and it went by at warp speed. First new years day in forever waking up rarin to go. Now don't get me wrong - my butt is headed to snuggle down with the kindle and reading, eating, reading, sleeping, reading, eating - well, you get the idea

Look at us - what an amazing, gorgeous, healthy, sober family we are. But above all, we are blessed. Well, I am blessed, for I have the best and most supportive group of people who I love beyond measure. Thank you, Jesus.

Always, all ways......Tammi

Beautiful posts everyone. Happy New Year to my wonderful SR family!!!
One year feels absolutely fabulous. Somehow I intuitively sense that all the scrambling and struggling I did in the first year will be replaced by taking this sobriety thing to the "next level".

I plan on journaling today and exploring a little of what I hope the "next level" will look like. Continued self-improvement and focus on what I can give back to the world for starters...My rough draft of my New Years resolutions (how I hate that term, lol).

I want to wish all of us, first and foremost, continued sobriety. Not just the white knuckle kind of getting by day-to-day sobriety. Much more than that. My wish is for blissful serenity and happiness and love for this thing we call life. Peace beyond measure. I wish us all good health and strong relationships with our friends and family, and lots of love to tie the whole package together!

You guys have done so much more than support me through this year. You have given me hope, something I desperately needed on January 1, 2012. By honestly sharing your stories and letting me know I was not alone in this. It means more than words can say.

As life goes on and I become more grounded in sobriety, I will never forget my humble beginnings and my SR family. I will always check back in and keep you all in my heart. You are all truly amazing and capable of great things, you have proved it this past year. Don't ever forget that!!!

Love you all xo
