August Sobriety 2009 Part 13
Hi guys. Hopefully someone is still around. Remember my worries about my husband? I always thought the drinking would be the death of him. I was wrong - the smoking is getting to him first.
He has cancer at age 47. We are still in testing phase to determine the extent. However, he did quit drinking cold turkey when he got the news. Still smoking though, which blows my mind a bit. If he survives the cancer, hopefully he will stay sober....and quit smoking too.
In the meantime, I've lost 10 pounds, because I never completely stopped drinking myself and now I have. lol

Hi PC. I don't check in here often but today I thought "I am going to log on and see if anything is going on with our group". Boy am I glad I did!
I am so sorry to read the news about your husband. I can't imagine what you are going through. I pray everything turns out well. Please keep us posted.
As for you, glad to hear you have quit drinking. It appears you are seeing some immediate health benefits from your decision. Good job.
Thank you for checking in. I think our group is pretty quite these days but hopefully others will be around soon to say hi.

Hi Guys!
I forgot to check in here over the Holiday's. This thread used to be a daily stop for me whenever I was on-line.
PurpleCat, great to see you back, I hope your husband's health concerns improve.
bdiddy, congrats on passing the 4 year mark!

Hi Zebra
Hubby's surgery went very well. Turned out to be colon cancer that had invaded his bladder. They say they got all of it. He still has a long road ahead, but it has stayed a sober one. for both of us.

I check in every couple weeks. I agree, not much activity here but my love for this group is still strong. Without it, not sure I would be sober today.
How is everyone doing? Any issues, let's post them!
Hope all of you is well.

I'm Sharon, im from the August 1990
group, if there ever was one back then.
August 11, 1990, with 23 yrs of many one
days at a time sober added together.
Family chose this time to intervene on
me sending me into rehab to help me
learn about my addiction to alcohol.
What Ive learned and continue to learn
with a program of recovery as my stepping
stones to living a sober life more happier,
more honest and definitely free'r.

Thanks for stopping by Sharon. Always good to hear from people with extended sobriety time. It gives us all hope.
I guess I am about 4.5 years sober now. I sometimes can't believe it has been that long. But I am grateful every single day! One day at a time, I have a choice every morning when I wake up to drink or NOT drink that day. Thankfully, I keep choosing not to drink. As a result, I have been blessed with a life I never could have imagine.
I hope all of you are well.

I picked up my 4 year coin last night. It was a few weeks late because I've been busy, but nice to get.
I was reflecting back on what a mess I was in when I first joined this website. I'm glad I don't live like that anymore.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Congrats Zebra. Truly inspirational. I pray that you never catch me. I guess I am a little over 4.5 years sober.
I can sure relate to how you felt when you came to SR. I was there too. Life was a mess physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Sure am glad I found a solution.
Congrats again! That is awesome.

Happy Independence Day to all of my United States friends. One of my favorite holidays and even more special since we get to celebrate our independence from alcohol as well. I will be spending the weekend at the lake with family.
I hope you all are well. Hugs to all of you.
