August Sobriety 2009 Part 13
Man, I haven't checked in on this group in awhile!
I've been posting frequently on SR, but mostly it seems, in a music trivia type thread. I guess my posting needs have changed a bit in the past 3.5 years. I got my 3 year AA coin last month, that was cool. I went to a meeting with my sponsor and my sponsor's, sponsor to receive it.
How's everyone else doing?

Thanks for checking in Zebra. Life is great here. Crazy busy lately, but that is to be expected with a 4 year old and a 1 year old.
We moved our office to a new location, and getting ready to move my wife's gym as well. This way we will all be in one location and I bought it. Time to start paying myself instead of someone else.
Otherwise, just enjoying sobriety. Hope you all are well, and HAPPY MOTHER"S DAY to you mothers!

Thanks for the update, bdiddy. I forgot to mention, my oldest daughter just graduated from college. And she actually has a job in her field! She starts in a couple of weeks, and my hope is that the company she works for will help pay for graduate school.
It seems like once you have kids, the time really flies!

I just read an article last night that said only 50% of college grads get a job in their field of study once they graduate. So that is awesome she got a job doing what she went to school for!

I missed my meeting today. GRRRRR. I had some clients stop in right before I left for it and had to meet with me. I strongly dislike it when that happens. But nothing happens in God's world by mistake, so they must have needed to meet with me more than I needed a meeting.
At least that is what I am telling myself. Happy Memorial Day weekend my friends.

You back to playing tennis yet biddy?
I'm playing 3 - 4 times a week. I'm planning on taking a few individual lessons from one of our club pro's this summer. I may be north of 50, but I'm still trying to get better at this game.
My job is pretty stressful but trying to knock the yellow off of some tennis balls at night sure is therapeutic.

Good for you Zebra. No, not back to the ol' court yet. I thought about joining our city league this summer but with moving our office and my wife's gym and having to remodel both of those buildings, there just hasn't been much free time lately.
Right now any free time I get I spend at the gym, trying to make my muscles bigger. That is my therapy.

Well, this group seems to be dead. Kind of sad since I know for me, I sure got a lot out of it. Heck, I probably owe my sobriety and health to this group. Granted, this group didn't get me sober, but it sure got my pointed in the right direction.
I think this picture sums up my sobriety pretty well.

Thanks Zebra. Yes, this was a 11.2 mile obstacle/mud run we did in Somerset WI a couple weeks ago. It was amazingly difficult but very rewarding at the same time. I just thought it was a fitting picture to capture the gratitude I have for my sobriety. While drinking there is no way I could have done anything like this. I have found so much more freedom and excitement in sobriety.
I hear a lot of people say when they first get sober that they will never be happy again, that life will be boring now, etc. I am the first one to testify how untrue that is. Life is so much more than I ever could have imagined.

I guy I know (who also had an addiction problem) has done some of these really grueling events like this. I think he did one that actually involved swimming under a barb wire fence in very cold water as one of the obstacles. Not for me. BTW, he's now a youth pastor, nice job of turning a life around.

Sounds like he may have done the same event that this picture was taken at. Yes, one of the 18 obstacles was jumping into a giant dumpster of ice cold water. There was a board halfway across it with barb wire on top of it right at water level. The only choice was to completely submerge and go under it.
It is a true challenge of mental and physical toughness. Honestly, mostly mental.

Hi guys! I have no idea why I thought of you all, but I decided to pop in and see if anyone was still around.
I'm doing pretty well. Dieting, but that's nothing new. My son's off to college this year, so we are empty nesters. That's a bit problematic with DH's drinking, but I am finding things to do. Volunteering at the Humane Society, joined a new gym, stuff like that.
