I'm still here, but only get on the forum occasionally.
4 years, 4 months as of today.

I have no urge to drink, and haven't really in years. I still go to meetings, probably at least once a week, but I'm thinking of taking a break. It's not so much about not drinking any more as it is about continuing growth and becoming a better person by working on all the ingrained character defects that I, as an alcoholic, inherently have. With AA it's about sharing my experience, strength, and hope to help others, yet with the pending shutdown of my usual weekly meeting there hasn't been any newcomers to this group in a long time. There is another group on-island that I occasionally attend.

I sometimes find myself considering what life would be like if I drank. These thoughts are usually prodded by a media moment (tv show/movie/book) that clicks with a 'good' past drinking moment from my own life. A good example is where I was anchored off a virgin beach after a perfect sail, with no other boats about, and sat back in the cockpit enjoying a refreshing rum & coke. Or watching some guys working on a project and then enjoying a frosty beverage afterwards.

Yet I know full well that despite the enjoyable moments, my life on that track would be filled with depression, regret, and chaos. It's just not worth it.

So yes, I'm here. Still sober since day one - 25 Apr 2012 - Lest we forget.

Still here

A friend of mine told me many moons ago. “If someone would have told me three years ago you would still be sober, I never would have believed it.” I said “Don’t ble ya Richard, I would have bet against myself too”

8 years later and I’m still sober as a church mouse!

@Dee74 thanks for always keeping tabs on this thread

Yep - 8+ years and we're still passing by to check in from time to time.
Well done RR, and thanks Dee74 for continuing to be there for all of the quitters.
