Relieved to hear she's doing a little better, Hooped. It's terrific that you are able to be there for your mom in a time of need. I don't just mean be there physically, but really be there, in body and spirit.
HI everyone, hope you all have a good week and stay positive.
Talked to my sisrter last night and looks like my father needed to go into the ER. I will spare you the details but he needed to be, um, "unclogged". He's pushing 87..really makes me realize time is passing and he will not be here forever.
But my desk is here and it's another week.

Drinking is like being in a time warp. I feel so grateful to have the chance to spend time with my loved ones. I'm learning how to let them know how much I cherish each of them. It's bittersweet, but love is all that's worth anything in this life. I'd take the misery of love over what I came from every time. At least now I know I'm alive.

It's a damn short movie, this thing called life.
After he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, Warren Zevon appeared on his old friend Dave Letterman's show. Zevon knew he had just weeks to live, but was amazingly upbeat. Letterman asked him if he had gained any profound insights, and Zevon's answer was just that we need to "enjoy every sandwich." That resonates for me as much as anything I've found in my philosophy books.
On a lighter note, I will say this: I'm a lot younger than I was 13 months ago.
MGF, I hope your dad is feeling better. Likewise for your mom, Hooped.

Some days kids are gifts from heaven... and some days they're reenacting a scene from "The Exorcist."
My little one was having a coughing fit in her sleep tonight, and when I went in to check on her, she suddenly started puking right before my eyes. She was lying face-up and still unconscious (which reminded me of stories about how some alcoholics die). Anyway, she's fine; her cold isn't even that bad anymore. I'm sure she would have woken up on her own, but it was good to be there to calmly help her out of bed and into a shower. She's now sound asleep in my room.
Reason No. 87 to Love Being Sober: You never know what the next few minutes will bring.
