Hi, ttqttfg, you are ten days ahead of me in sobriety. I hope never catch you up. What I won't miss?

-- Not being able to wake up in weekends before 2pm
-- Wasting a lot of money in bars
-- Not being able to sleep
-- Being depressed and anxious
-- Getting involved in fightings or problems
-- Going to bed drunk at 5 am or later
-- Waking in the morning hungover and unable to work
-- Falling to the ground when being drunk
-- Having disputes

Etc.

what I won't miss:

-being a lousy parent who must've stank of alcohol
-blackouts
-hangovers
-wondering if my kids heard my drunk talk on the phone
-checking txt messages and emails the next day to see if I'd sent any
-not remembering conversations I had and having to ask questions to try to put together the events of the previous night
-yelling at my kids (which I very rarely do now)
-drinking at EVERY event there was...birthdays, graduations, weddings, funerals, first communions, confirmations, anything...
-finding out I had a fatty liver after having a sonogram and lying about my alcoholism to my doctor
-lying to myself
-lying to others
-calling in sick with a "migraine"
-going to different liquor stores to "hide" how much I was drinking
-needing the "hair of the dog" the next day to feel normal again
-the endless mornings of promising myself that I would stop today....and then drinking again
-getting behind the wheel of a car and wondering if it was okay (yeah, I did it)(thanks be to God that no one was ever hurt!)
-how STUPID I acted

OK, I'm in day Day 76 now, that means 6,618,737 seconds sober. Now I need to use the Sobriety Calculator, because it is beginning to be difficult to calculate the sober days. AA History Sobriety Calculator

I am somewhat surprised that I've got so far. Feeling well. I don't have PAWS (post-acute withdrawal symptoms). What do you think about PAWS? I have found that the only one who talks about it is Terence Gorski, so I begin to doubt it is really scientific.

The link I usually give out is based on Gorski's ideas, so I won't post it for you Mariano

I don't know how scientific it is - I'm not a scientific mind by any means - but it matched my personal experience with PAWs almost exactly?

Based on my understanding, not everyone will experience Paws

Thanks, Dee...a lot here for me to think about. I only glanced at the whole article, but it really made me go "hmmmm, I can relate to a lot of this..." In particular, lately I've been emotionally over-reacting to such extremes that I started to think I was crazy. My sleep problems are back again, and I'm having a terrible time managing stress. Rigid, repetitive thinking....oh man, that is me! And last but not least...memory problems. I can't tell you how many times lately I went out to go somewhere and cannot remember where I parked my car -- and that is sober! Again, I started to think I was losing my mind, it happened again today and I had to walk around trying to find my car because I COULD NOT remember where I parked it last night...(it was on my block, I walked right by it!)

Maybe there is something here...which would be good because then I could feel confident it will pass...

Thanks for posting!

Love the lists everyone. Can relate to almost all of your items. Some mornings I would just delete all my texts without reading them afraid of what I had said.

I made a list the day or two after my last drink and refer to it often to remind myself why I quit. I actually find something new almost every day reaffirming my decision.

Things I won't miss:

Waking to terror.
The brain-stem headache.
People treating me stupid--cuz I'm acting stupid.
Crashing in through the house and careening toward bed.
Movies I have seen but don't remember.
Realizing I've done things that seemed fun but which I really feel are reprehensible.
Drunk talk.
Retelling stupid stories to stupid people.
Worrying whether the people at work can see.

And more.

Nice idea!

weekend plans

To my U.S. friends: What are your plans for the long 4th of July weekend?

To everyone else: What are your plans for the regular weekend?

Not much here. Just trying to stay cool. Might go to the pool with the kids and bbq something.

Doing it sober too!

I have had also some memory and concentration problems, but think they are getting better. Sleeping problems persist, but not so serious as before. Stress is more or less OK.

Certainly, I believe all this will pass.

I am going on holidays to the beach this next Monday. It may be a little difficult, but I am quite confident.

we're visiting family, there will be some sort of barbecue on sunday...but these are not situations where temptation to drink is a problem, so it should not be a nice, easy weekend. we're actually driving home on the 4th and leaving early (it's about a 5 hour drive), so hope to be home long before any craziness happens

have a great, sober weekend everyone!

Talking

Great job Aprilers Keep up the good work!!!

I celebrated 90 days (from cigarettes, moscato and vodka)on Wednesday Yesterday was 1 year of not drinking beer I am so proud and so amazed! I drank a 6-12 pack of beer everyday for a decade because I LOVED the taste. I didn't know then but I was allergic to beer. My face and arms had a horrible mutant form of ezcema that was caused by the beer...I feel so blessed to be living in pretty good health and sober :day6 Thank you Lord. After 3 months sober last year, I believed that wine and alcohol would not affect me the way the beer had...I truly believed the wine will just mellow me out and I can take it or leave it. After all, I am not a wine or alcohol drinker(I think it tastes gross). Well 6 months later, drinking wine and alcohol (even though I didn't like the taste) was ruining my life. I had to have 2 HUGE bottles of Sutter Home Moscato every other day...My life sucked!

Not doing too much for the weekend. Meeting with former coworkers on Sunday. Monday, a friend from elementary school wants to come over and cook out. I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.

I always drove drunk! I made myself believe that I drove better drunk than I did sober because everytime I had an accident, I was sober.

Many of you are facing the threat of 4th july. Others of us are taking holidays soon. Dangerous time. Before the fog alcohol darkened almost everything around, I was quite fond of Shakespeare. I loved to read it, both in English and in Spanish. I always remembered the St. Crispin Speech Day (Henry V, Shakespeare), before the battle of Agnincourt (France). As you may remember, the English army was surrounded by a powerful French army, double in size. The vigil of the battle of Agnincourt, English soldiers were afraid, so the King Henry V gave a warm speech to comfort them. I always recall the St. Crispin Speech when I am in trouble. It gives me hope. I suppose I’m an epic character. Needless to say that the battle was won by English.

We are in a similar situation. We face a terrible enemy that is more powerful than us. We need to strengthen our hope and stay together. I hope you will enjoy this beautiful speech. I have also a wonderful video about it. Turn on the speakers, please, because the music is wonderful. Here it goes the video:

We lucky few, We Band of Brothers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnHZS...eature=related

Saint Crispin Day Speech

This day is call'd the feast of Crispin.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall never go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-at-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers will defeat the beast of alcoholism. And for he to-day that sheds his blood with me, shall be my brother and Knight of St. Crispin (or Knight of 4th July). And we will be able to say, in the future: Yes, we fought together that battle in 4th July.

Thanks Mariano, Love@run and ttq

I feel so good Went to 2 cookouts and a mini reunion today. Didn't drink at either despite Heinken and Moscato flowing. The key for me was not to stay too long...I got around and saw everyone at each event and chatted with them but didn't beat a dead horse. Most couldn't believe that I didn't bring a cooler or wasn't sitting next to one. Everyone kept complimenting me on how good I looked! I even got hit on a couple times lolololol

I hope everyone had a GREAT 4th
