I don't have internet at home. So I only log on while at work. Thanks everyone. I will try my hardest to make it this weekend. If I do, it will be longest stretch sober in the last 12 years. yay!

Made it through the day. Feeling better. Tomorrow's day 6. Still no cravings. I guess I'm scared because I almost never make it past day 12 but I need to this time.

Thanks for the support.

Count me in!
Day 8, and starting to feel better . ^Tonight I have a dinner to attend, I'll ask a soda or juice, at the moment I'm not worried about it, so that's good.
have a nice weekend.

This is my first time quitting drinking. I have been having weird dreams/nightmares and I am finding it hard to stay asleep. AA is hard, at first I was so tense in the meetings I couldn't move, but it is getting better. I need a sponsor, but I haven't found someone yet. I am still having a mental battle with denial, it has only been a week but the strong feelings about what got me here are starting to subside already and making me think it was not such a big deal in the first place. It was and continues to be a big deal. The last drink I had was New Year's.

Welcome to SR, Shih. I've found this site really helpful.

I know I've felt the temptation to minimize or even romanticize my past drinking. One thing I've done is to write down some of the worst stuff that occurred in my life—the bad nights as well as the cumulative toll they took on my life.

I think reading the early posts of others also helps remind me why I quit. And the later posts—the ones where they share how great their lives have become without alcohol—are a real inspiration to me.

Shih......Welcome

What helped me in early recovery...I made a list of all the bad
things that happened to me because I drank.
Another of why I desired to quit...and my goals that I aimed
for in the sober future.

Anytime I thought "No big deal" I read my list...and Yes! my
future was a big deal. So is yours....

Have you considered a temporary sponsor? Check out Beginners meetings
or ask in your regular meetings for a sponsor.

It was also useful to me to begin making new sober AA friends.
We went for coffee after meetings..and it was interesting and fun.

Good to see you here with us....Congratulations on choseing sobriety.

Hi Hi,

Soooo glad the weekend is over and it's Monday . Weekdays are a lot easier for me
I'm on a fantastic number today: day 10! I had some moments of temptation this weekend that after all, weren't impossible to overcome. So I am doing ok, I am doing ok today and hopefully tomorrow also.
This week will be difficult for me (and my mum), for emotional reasons. I'm going to try to stay on this vibe, this wave , and not let it get to me too much.

With any luck, I get to choose a gorgious puppy on Wednesday and have it in the weekend. This would do me good, it's something that I wanted for the longest time but was always forbidden by a controlfreak. I already know which one I want, just hoping that it's waiting there for me untill Wednesday. Hey, if it's meant to be.... then it'll be there!

And also, no more coffees in the morning are very helpfull. After all, for me that's a trigger (coffee = ciggie = drinkies = ciggie = coffee in the morning = etc).
I'm seeing some patterns here ha ha!
All the best xox

I must admit, I did not make it this weekend.
Saturday I was soooo tempted but I told myself, "who knows what will happen tomorrow, maybe you will drink tomorrow, but just don't drink today, not today" and so Saturday I fought those urges and won.
Sunday I went to church, then with family and was offered wine but refused and drank soda instead. In the evening my dog ran away for the millionth time (but she came back) I was so mad at her, because I do not know how to keep her from escaping my backyard. I have tried everything but she still leaves. Anyway, I was so upset and angry and stressed that I just gave in and drank. I feel like such a failure today. I went 8 straight days without drinking then I went and ruined my streak.

Nearly four years ago I put up a simple little fence in my front yard to keep my dogs safe, both from running away and from other dogs or people coming into their 'space'. It took me three days and my brother helped me install the gates but it's the best thing I ever did.

It wasn't chain link fencing, just simple 'garden fencing', (three feet tall, vinyl coated 'chicken wire-type' but sturdier than chicken wire) not really escape-proof, but then my dogs are small and not inclined to dig under or jump over. It only cost me a bit under two hundred dollars for the fencing and the gate materials. Of course I never leave them out there by themselves but always go out with them.

Is putting up fencing a possibility for you? Depending on where you live too may make a difference. For instance, I live in Ohio and the ground is now frozen and it would be hard, if not impossible, to put in the stakes.

If you like I can tell you how I put it up and what materials I used.

Your dog runs away even when tied out? Is it a big dog or just clever enough to get loose? What kind of tie-out are you using? When I just had one dog and no fence I used the plastic coated metal cable tie-outs and it worked well except for her getting tangled up sometimes. THe vinyl coated tie outs are available in different lengths and strengths for different sizes of dogs. They don't last forever tho, as the metal gets old and 'brittle' and can break off.

PM me if you like. I hope your dog stays put from now on.

Like Carol says scared1 many of us had to try a couple of times to get this right.

Stress is a big one to handle, but if you plan for it, maybe you can handle the next stress better?

I hope you can sort your dog problem out

Well this is my first posting. Im based near liverpool in uk england. Im 32 years old and presently on day 9 of alcohol abstinence.

First two days were reasonably straight forward, the third predictably difficult, four five and six pretty breezy and felt good about myself. slept fine (when i slept) and began unraveling issues in my mind i had not tackled for years.

since day 7 its been harder.

as far as i can remember i have only ever gone longer than a week sober maybe 2 previous times, and one of those was because i was on meds.

oh well i spoke to AA today and will be attending a meeting on wednesday which will be my day 11.

i dont know how long i will last but im in no mood to quit yet. its just that at the moment my recovery seems in a bit of a rut....and my cravings are getting worse.

perhaps today has just been a bad day.

day 10 tomorrow.
