Don t come back here often enough, considering all the help the site gave me when I was starting out sober.

Heading towards my 4th Sober Christmas, cant wait. Been 4 years in May past since I last touched alcohol.

Don t even think about it much these days which is why I rarely remember to pop back in.

My wee girls just had her 6th birthday, sons coming up for nine and just got into his football team.

Thanks once again to all the good folk at SR for their help over the years, if Im no back in, hope everyone has a great Christmas and New Year.

You do a lot of fantastic work round here Dee. Done quite a wee bit of reading on the boards today. Not for any reason, just have nt been around in a while and was feeling grateful.

Was amused to see a lot of newbies still fall into the trap of thinking your a girl !!!

Some amount of dedication on your part though, take my hat off to you. I try and lend a wee bit support but it will then be weeks before I m back on. Would hope I ll never forgot about the place completely though cos I owe it a lot. You seem to be here day after day though doing your good work. Well done sir, you do an excellent job.

Unbelievably it is 5 years ago today I stopped drinking, doesnt seem that long, but then in other ways it does, not in terms of it has been hard just it feels like the old me was a different lifetime ago.

I live such an active, busy and enjoyable life now compared to the ill wreck I was 5 years ago. My evenings are no longer spent hiding away. isolating myself drinking vodka, I m out on my bike, coaching my sons football team, climbing hills, I have all this energy I didnt realise I had inside me.

The help I recieved on here back five years ago was invaluable, thank you, don t know theres many from that time left on here.

For people just starting out, just trust that it really is possible, I didnt think I could do it but now alcohol very rarely even touches my thoughts. The longer you stay sober the easier it gets as well.

The one thing I would say, if like me you have been drinking heavily over a number of years then you cant expect things to get better overnight. I reckon it took me 12 odd years to train my body to cope with the amount of vodka I was drinking. Your body can heal quickly, my physical symptons went away within a couple of weeks, it takes a lot longer to get your mind healed though.

Stick with it and its is so doable though.

Cant believe it s nearly another 6 months passed since I last updated.

Everythings fine though which is why its been so long.

Been doing a lot of cycling over the summer, reckon I manage approx 120 miles a week, lost a bit of weight and feel much better. I m fitter in my forties then I ever was in my twenties which is a shame but you can t live life in reverse.

We had a fantastic weeks holiday on a barge in the summer, imagine trying to take kids on a boat if you were nt sober ?

Just popped back to say hello anyway, hope everyone that knows or remembers me is doing great too.

Good to see new people still coming here all the time, just hope some of them get as much out of it as I have.

Just popped in to say hello.

Things going well, got promoted to a managers position at work, only to cover a maternity just now but got to start somewhere. Would have been unbelievable to even consider I d have been doing that 5 years ago though.

Kids are doing great, right in to their sport, again it helps I m fit and sober to take them places.

Tough time of year for folks trying to give up though.
Hope everyone has a great safe Christmas.

Just a quick update.

Unbelievably another 2 years has passed since I was last here, life is full of ups and downs but it's been another 2 sober years.

I ve long ago stopped worrying about days or time but the date on my profile is the day I stopped drinking so over 8 years now it will be.

I really just come back now and again now to say thanks.

For those that knew me back in the days when I was an every day visitor here, things are going just fine.

Kids are getting older , 12 and 9 , married, working, life's plodding away.

I have no days really I even think about drinking anymore, I do get days where I get pissed off with myself for underachieving due to the years wasted drinking but you can t change the past.

Teeth, I suffer from bad teeth caused I think from the years of drinking, on other hand though that appears to he the only health implications I ve had so maybe should consider myself lucky as well.

Woke up this morning and something about the date triggered in my mind, lifes going fine just now, long past counting days or months , but realised this morning that its now 10 years since I touched alcohol. Many years as well since I was on this site every day trying to fill the time.

Good luck to everyone needing help right now and once a again a big thank you to this place for being here when I needed it.
