LOL no trick my friend just facts.

Of course it would be wiser not to take that first drink...necessary if you ask me.

Bad decision making does not render you powerless...it takes a series of bad decisions to get to the point of lifting a drink to your mouth. At some point you decide to drink...you plan it...you make it happen...bad decision...bad decision...bad decision.
First thing I learned in aa....when you want to drink call someone and get to a meeting...where did this play into the equation when you last drank? Knowing all you know why did you choose not to do these simple things? I would venture to say you wanted to drink more than you wanted to be sober at that moment.

Fizzy...interesting perspective.

But why would I want to drink even though I know it will kill me?

This is more than just bad decision making this is temporary insanity.

I was hoping you might answer the original question of why did you not call someone...post here BEFORE you drank or even gotten yourself to a meeting?
Why have a sponsor if you don't call him before you drink?

Stone you were sober for months...you did what we all do...you decided F-it...it's up to you to figure out where you draw the line in the sand for your own life.

The thing is, and this is anethema to most AA's...I am taking what I need and leaving the rest...for now....meetings for social aspect/isolation.
And as for the program, I can understand how the idea of spiritual growth is useful.

I expect to leave AA eventually, for now I am using it.

I answered your question implicitly, the answer is that I wanted to drink.

Stone, honestly the parts you are taking are not helping you stay sober. I also took the mantra of "take what you want and leave the rest" but I followed thru on the pieces I took. I don't believe in the powerless part...leaving me responsible...responsible to reach out when I wanted to drink. I attended many meetings Stone....said at EVERY meeting...use your numbers and rely on your home group....REACH OUT for help.

What part do you utilize if it is not the religious aspect or even the support group aspect?

We all at one time or another in sobriety wanted to drink...that's a given...a plan needs to be in place for these times.

I use meetings to reduce my isolation and I do step 10 and 11 daily, well my own version of them.

It is easy to say the parts I am using are not working since I keep drinking, lol. But who is to say that my last was not my very last? I am hopeful it was, I have never had 40+ days without thinking of drinking at all before.

It's not easy to say at all Stone in fact it pains me to do so.
Personal inventory is wonderful...meditation is terrific but what about the drinking?

Maybe you would be willing to share it when you are done writing it.

Ya know Stone I care about you...even with all the jabs you throw my way I still want to see you live a life of peace. Self empowerment is paramount.

As for sharing it, it will remain my little secret until I have some sober time.
