Not really, I can either take AA or leave it. He would rather I take it more thoroughly. And this is a thought I have too, if I am going to do it, do it, type thing.

I happen to know he spent 2 years in AA calling the BB a load of crap before he became the Mr AA he is now, so he understands my vacillations, I think.

I won't drink, but damn it, I want to - even knowing how badly it would turn out. I just want this desire to drink removed from my soul. It's making me tired, the constant struggle. Doesn't help matters either that I feel so crappy this morning.

As always Stone I wish you the best of luck...I know you like to poke me regarding my beliefs about aa but I sincerely hope only the best for you. My one step program...don't drink even if your ass is falling off...and if you like aa...bring your ass to a meeting!

Least...the desire to drink will go away with time. I have said it before but it takes practice for us not to automatically default to drinking when things get hard...hang in there...you can do this...don't allow doubt to cloud your way.

Thanks Bugs.

Sitting on the fence is painful but AA is not harming me, I enjoy the meetings I go to, I isolate a lot naturally and they help with that.
Most of the people in the meetings are not BB thumpers either, trust me to find one of the minority to be my sponsor! I also like the idea of spiritual growth, I was interested in it before AA.
If I avoided the AA forum here altogether I would probably do better.

It is just gentle poking you know?

My only advise to you is this....becareful of what you choose to believe. I have been saying this a lot cause from my observation it seems to be a trend...when people start to believe that they truly are powerless and diseased giving in to a craving becomes that much easier. Kinda like the devil made me do it. In addition it seems from my observations here and at my time in aa that the binges become much more dangerous. The best advise I ever got in aa was THINK the drink thru....not to the initial buzz but to the end. It saved my ass plenty of times during my first months. You can do this you know...maybe one day you will be Mr. AA!

I don't believe that I am powerless, I am powerless after the first drink...but not before. Before the first drink I am weak, not powerless.

Thinking the drink through works for me sometimes. I do become weird before the first drink, each time I convince myself it will be OK when the other 95% of the time I know it isn't. That is just weird.

I would even go so far as to say that I am not powerless after the first drink...drinking impairs our judgement but it does not render us powerless. If someone held a gun to your head and told you to pour out the alcohol I'm pretty sure the booze would be circling the drain.

True but only valid if there really is someone with a gun.

You tricked me into that! LOL

Anyway, wouldn't it be wiser to not take the first drink? This IS life and death you know?

The thing is I know it is life or death but it doesn;t stop me does it?

Hi Porty, the stick might not be effective, fun though?
