Whiners Anonymous Part 19
My whine today is that the mood swings of early sobriety are driving me crazy.
I've been so up and down today I don't know whether I am coming or going.
Here is hoping for a better, or at least more stable, tomorrow.

Not sure if it's a Whine or a Sigh of Relief...trying to wrap my brain around this one, although it's seemed imminent for a while.
Sis called last night...I could tell right away she'd been crying. She doesn't expect it to be much longer for our Mom...can't swallow (forgotten how), not urinating (sign of dehydration)...doesn't look good. We're going to see if hospice will manage to get me over to see Mom within the next day or so. I'm dreading this...I haven't really seen her in over a year, and I know she's deteriorated a lot since then. Ninety-seven is a long time...longer than I want to be around, especially not the way it's been for the past five years.
Got to pull myself together and remember that, in spite of an unhappy childhood and the past several years of Alzheimer's, she made a good life for herself...raised three kids on her own, was active in many civic organizations, retired with a good pension, traveled all over the world for many years, and became an avid Atlantic City patron. Of course, she gambled away her life savings, including her insurance policies...but, we won't go into that...dementia causes people to do mighty strange things.
Taking it a day at a time...hoping everything will go swiftly and smoothly. Off to a motzah pancake breakfast in activity room...want to keep my head clear, and try not to break down in tears every few minutes.

My thoughts are with you and your family Jersey, Ive never really spoken to you but i read your posts and know what a strong woman you are, I know you can get through this.
Espresso you will have to start making your own coffee soon, Nero's will go bankrupt!
I have no whines today, after reading Jerseys post I am nothing but grateful for my life.

OK...gotta take a deep breath and relax! False Alarm! Sis called (in tears), "I'm not calling anyone else to tell them Mommy's dying. She's up, her teethe are in, she's smiling, eating, laughing...even has lipstick on. Here, Mom...say 'Hello' to Rae." I hear a feeble, but perfectly audible, "Hello."
I tell Sis, "Isn't this typical? That stubborn old lady!" If you knew our Mom, you'd know this is not unusual...she always did "march to a different drummer". Why would she stop now? She'll "go" when she's darn good and ready.
So, everything is on hold for now. I have a feeling, when the time comes, it will be "badda bing, badda boom". But, I'm still planning on trying to make it to see her over the weekend.
Thanks for the good thoughts. I do appreciate your concern.

More layoffs at mr cmc's company today....sigh, it's so sad. My son was laid off from there in the first 'round' a few months ago and still hasn't found a new job. They've made two 10% cuts into the employee base so far.
((jerz))) I'm glad your mama's okay.

I read the same post 9 times today. My whine is why did someone have to invent cut and paste.
Sorry to hear about the layoffs CMC. Things are getting tough everywhere. A downturn is when your neighbor loses his job and a recession is when you lose your job. This one is brutal already.
Glad things turned out OK Jersey. Are you still going to try to see your mom? My father had the same disease and I am glad I seen him before it got real bad.

Why the anxiety attack least, or did I miss something? Hang in there honey, deep breaths. Is it warm enough to walk the dogs?
My whine for the day: People who have potentially aggressive dogs need to step up to the plate and be responsible. If your dog barks like a maniacal killer at the post man, go out and watch him to be sure he can't jump the fence, go under the fence, or knock the stupid thing down. Ask you postal worker, meter reader or neighbors if they have any fears or concerns about your dog getting out, and if they do FIX YOU DAMN FENCE!!!!!
ok, I guess thats a rant not a whine. . . .sorry

My son was a meter reader and they gave him pepper spray for dogs which apparently as effective as it sounds. The electronic meter reading machine was much more effective on both the dogs and the owners after they heard their dog yapping after letting it run loose.

Yes, I'm going to try to see Mom soon...it's just a matter of the technicalities involved in transporting back and forth from the nursing home. We'll work it out.
NO whines...but My dog hates the mailman, and since he comes at the same time everyday, we just keep her behind closed doors. Problem solved.
AND I GOT MY FIRST PAYCHECK TODAY!!!! And my shoulder stopped hurting, and I'm seeing friends tonight for some dancing fun.
I'm sure I"ll come up with a whine tomorrow.
Love to the whiners...
Karen
