Just answering Gypsys post in the last thread, it got closed...

Gyps, I am not sulking I am just tired of being talked to like I am not trying, not committed enough. Even if there is an element of truth to that, surely most people here struggled for years to quit, can none of them remember what it was like? Did people losing patience with them help?

Tough love has it's place but everyday, often in exasperated tones, people taking turns at it? Nah. I really just need a break from it.

I love you too. :hug:

HEY STONE, AND ALL THE OTHER IDIOTS,
I DID SOME BACK READING HERE THIS MORN AND THOUGHT OF KING BABY, WHICH I LEARNED ABOUT MY DAUGHTER’S FIRST REHAB ….

In the King Baby literature, you learn to identify the infantile King Baby ego within us. Our Childish personality traits must be surrendered before our disease can be fully arrested. The compulsive King Baby personality can accelerate addiction or lead to relapse....

King babies share a wide range of personality traits. None of us has all these traits, but we will probably find many that describe us. King Babies may show these characteristics.

Often become angry or afraid of authority figures and will attempt to work them against each other in order to get their own way

Seek approval and frequently lose their own identities in the process

Able to make good first impression but unable to follow through

Have difficulty accepting personal criticism and become threatened and angry when criticized

Have addictive personalities and are driven to extremes

Are often immobilized by anger and frustration and are rarely satisfied

Are usually lonely even when surrounded by people

Are chronic complainers who blame others for what is wrong in their lives

Feel unappreciated and think they don't fit

See the world as a jungle filled with selfish people who aren't there for them

See everything as a catastrophe, a life or death satiation

Judge life in absolutes: black and white, right and wrong

Live in the past, fearful of the future

Have strong feeling of dependence and exaggerated fears of abandonment

Fear failure and rejections and don't try new things that they might not do well

Are obsessed with money and material things

Dream big plans and schemes and have little ability to make them happen

Cannot tolerate illness in themselves or others

Prefer to charm superiors and intimidate subordinates

Believe rules and laws are for others, not for themselves

Often become addicted to excitement, life in the fast lane

Hold emotional pain within and lose touch with their feelings

The inner Struggle
Understanding King baby is difficult because things are never as they appear on the surface. There are two prime motivating factors: First, the scared, lonely, child who does not want to be hurt anymore and , second, the king Baby who is never satisfied.

(THIS IS FROM ANOTHER BLOG …)

Now, if we really were the centre of the Universe, if all people and all things did revolve around us, and if we could dominate other people and successfully make all those demands upon them, then we could probably go through life fairly comfortably – if we didn’t happen to have a conscience. But the truth of the matter is, people are simply not going to bow down and knuckle under to us, and this is the reason why we should try to quit playing the King Baby game. It simply and plainly is not realistic and we are the ones that are bound up in it. Really we are slaves to all those people that we think are slaves to us.

If you do these four things:
Number One;
Accept your need for change, face up to it and consciously and deliberately commit the act of change, willing and honestly.

Number Two;
Let God or something bigger than yourself run the Universe and you assume your proper role.

Number Three;
Interact with other people on an equal level in groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous.

Number Four;
Realize deeply that you are only one of God’s children, that you or any one of you are equal but that humankind is greater than you. And make a commitment to be in the service of your brothers and sisters and to live in whatever way is consistent with your experience of the life force.

If you do these four things, than you are truly overcoming your King Baby symptoms and you are free.

Free to be yourself, free to be honest and trusting with other people, free to start really swinging with life.

After all this time of misery and unhappiness, to start having some real fun.

JUST SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

My break isn't going very well so far....lol.

I can relate to a lot of those traits, K. :eek13:

Another thing I have noticed about myself is that after I drink I get very depressed and anxious and it exacerbates the King Baby traits. I also get a bit paranoid (something I have had badly in the past) and I lump people together as one giant person criticising me.

So, sorry if I have been a bit of a baby again. I may still try to take the break, I dunno.

parentrecovers 01-04-2009 07:01 AM

you don't have to be sorry, stone.

i remember when my daughter's counselor handed her the king baby pamphlet at rehab - her eyes kept getting BIGGER and BIGGER as she read it outloud to us! ha! i got a lot from it too. i liked it because it was so simple and relatable.

i think we're all king babies sometimes.

I do remember what it was like. Yes, people in my real life were harsh with me. My children were hurt with me. I didn't get it when I should have. I fully know that pain. That people losing patience didn't help is true but I wasn't ready then. You are ready. You *HAVE* done it already :)!

Stoney I'll try not to say anything more tough lovish. Deal? I do love and care for you very much :hug:.

K... can I be a Queen Baby please? I don't look very patriarchal , but I do exhibit many of those traits. I think I got gypped. I never heard about King Baby when I went to IOP.

I think it's mostly ice at home. Had a big melt a week or so ago, then freezing rain yesterday. No snow here, but it's damn cold.

gypsytears 01-04-2009 07:44 AM

Cold here too but K didn't ask me :tongue:. No snow though :bounce:!!!

Hi Telly :wave:.
