Ah cola girl, I got sober in November havent stayed sober. Doh

First time Ive admitted that, I drank earlier this month, nothing major but enough for me to change my sober date.

I would love to join your 5k but you have to take into consideration that I have very short legs. lol

I have short legs too... Don't worry about it, only a minor disadvantage. Especially in a virtual 5K.

I first attempted running about 2 1/2 years ago. I could LITERALLY not run for more than 20 seconds. I'd run/walk, run/walk, run/walk for 20-30 minutes. I quit after 6 months; by then I could run about 4 minutes non-stop. 6 months after that I started working with a personal trainer. I can now run a mile...!!! I never dreamed that would be possible. When I completed my very first mile, I think my time was 14:41. I've whittled it down to a little over 11 minutes, but like I mentioned earlier, I haven't run much in the past 3 months so I doubt I could do it right now. When I'm in the habit of going to the gym 3 - 4 times a week, though, I can actually do that mile without TOO much trouble. I tend to feel really bad right around 7 minutes, but if I push through it, around 9 minutes I get my second wind and finish the mile without any more problems.

I'd love to be able to do a 10-minute mile.

Nands is always up to something...

I never thought I would run a mile either... I thought I "wasn't a runner". I couldn't believe it when I ran for 40 minutes without stopping. It feels great, I don't know what's taking me so long to get back into it (okay, I sort of do... laziness and wine).

I think I could run for 20 seconds, but I wouldnt bet my life on it. lol

My main problem is I smoke too much and Im a funny shape, not aerodynamic, I wasnt joking about running with my arms crossed.

LOL - I have a similar problem allport... top heavy I did quit smoking 9 years ago though, I can't imagine running when I had a pack-a-day habit.

Nands, I'm always sedate and boring, what exactly am I taking over for??

My breathing is so much better since I stopped (ahem) drinking probably because I only smoke half as much now.

But I just dont want to give up even though its not exactly fun, Ive tried before and I think the cravings were worse than for the alcohol.

Being top heavy is just not fun, I dont find that other women are jealous, they look at me with curiosity and quite a bit of pity.

I want to start running when I am finally over this cough. TSH - at last, someone who runs like I do. I average 12 min miles. Once did 10.5 minutes, but it felt like an all out sprint and the wind was behind me, lol!

Cheap too - as long as you have good shoes and a good bra, you're set to go.

A virtual 5k - that sounds right up my street! Count me in!

Don't worry nands. did you know you burn the same amount of calories walking a mile as you do jogging a mile. Interesting, isn't it. Obviously walking it takes a bit longer (but not much longer if you run like me, lol!!)

Finally. The rooms are both fairly messy, but so much better. There is a huge pile of rubbish out the front of the house waiting to go to the rubbish dump.

I've been feeling so close to giving in all day, feeling like sobriety sucks etc, etc. But I wonder if most of it was just hating the chaos upstairs. I just couldn't sleep last night because my bedroom was full of cr&p, smelt of paint.

Things are better now. My oldest daughter is tidying up upstairs - sometimes kids surprise you with how sweet they can be, and how they can save you from yourself.
