No, they are not young horses growing up - that would be a foal!
No, normal size people can ride ponies, as long as they are not too fat and heavy - and depending on how stocky the pony is.
Shetland Ponies originate from the Shetland Isles north of Scotland. But have now spread all over the world. They are very strong, very naughty and often way too out of control for small children to ride.

Yep, I get back at 1 on Sunday. My teenager comes home from his dad's on Saturday so YAY to that, too! And both kids go back to school on Monday! w00t!
I'm really excited about going to Niagara Falls, but everyone keeps telling me it's going to be mostly frozen. Still beautiful, but big blocks of ice everywhere, and the mist will freeze on me and my camera. I DON'T CARE. I'M TAKING PICTURES AT NIAGARA FALLS, DAMMIT!

I think Niagara Falls would be really pretty frozen. We have a bunch of falls around here and people always trudge out there in an ice storm to take pictures. It sounds COOL!
I'm really excited to get back to work on Monday (I know, I really just said that). It'll be nice to be back in a routine again... been out of one with snowpocalypse, the holidays, vacation, etc.
This is getting too untrivial for this thread... TSH, try to figure out how many roman soldiers could go over Niagara Falls in a barrel at one time, and how far they would fall, IN METERS.
