I just got the results of my blood tests and I have a folic acid deficiency (again).
They tested for diabetes, thyroid and lots of other stuff so they are all clear, which is good.
They wouldn't have tested for folic acid if I hadn't surreptitiously ticked the box for it, lol!

What are the causes of folic acid deficiency?

* Not eating enough foods that contain folic acid. Alcoholics and drug addicts are particularly at risk, but so too are elderly people eating a poor diet. In rare cases, it is found in teenagers who eat nothing but junk-food.

# The first symptoms will be tiredness and palpitations (awareness of heartbeat).

# Shortness of breath and dizziness (fainting) are also common.

# If the anaemia is severe, it can result in angina (chest pain), headache and leg pains (intermittent claudication).

I was told to take loads of vit B when I stopped drinking, Stone. Alcohol kills it!!

I have had horrible morning at work. My boss is cross with me. I have such a huge workload and can never get it all done. He is always complaining about something and without an extra couple of hours in the day it isn't humanly possible - not for me anyway.

Feel very sad right now. Thinking of fessing up to my doctor about my ludicrously high intake of Nurofen plus.

Stoney, can you take folic acid to help with the defenciency?

Ro, did you go to the gym?

I went and did the illiptical for 5 minutes and left. I just have a hard time getting motivated. But I am proud of myself for going. I did get my heart rate up and broke a sweat. But 5 minutes is pathetic.

It is ibuprofen with a tiny amount of codeine, Tan.

How does it effect you Lost? I wouldn't have thought you could get a buzz of it?

Yes, I can take folic acid supplements Tan, also I am gonna eat food containing it, lentils and pulses(I still have daal and pea soup in the freezer!), liver (blech) and green leafy veg are all high in it.

I had already been taking multivitamins with 100% RDA foilc acid in for the last month and had been eating the pea soup and the daal the days before the blood test BUT I was still deficient in it....so jeez!

((((lost))))

tanya - I have an elliptical at home that I try to get on every morning. I need something to distract me though. If I wasn't able to watch the news or a movie while I did the work-out I'd never stick with it.

Not much of a buzz, Stone - but it helps me cope with my job. Kind of peaceful and you can take anything that comes your way.

I haven't been coping with my job since I tried to stop and today I got into trouble because of it. I have to keep my job and at the moment feel like I have to take these things to do that.

I'm taking time off them on the weekend, I hope! I shall come and type some grumpy posts on here, lol!

It's a lot of ibuprofen to consume!

At least your blood tests weren't too bad, Stone. Hope the folic acid does the trick.

I stayed up until after 2 am watching Dexter on DVD and didn't wake up until 1130. I'm in bed eating toast and drinking my coffee.
Eff the gym. Nag me all you want but I'm NOT going. It's starting to snow out for crissake!

I just bought an elliptical for home. It's my next year's fees in a gym membership. Since I went back to work fulltime there's just nowhere to put 3-4 trips to the gym in my schedule. My best time to work out now is first thing in the am.
