Veterans day has a special significance for me. My wonderful wife Shannon quit. She just never could, or would stay sober. She was 32 years old, bright, beautiful, funny, warm, kind caring, a great companion, step mother, and my best friend.
On Veterans day 2004, she went into the hospital for the last time, and died the next morning at 01:42 of a varisceal bleed that couldn't be stopped.
Folks, that is what quitting with our disease will get you, it's only a matter of time, unless a car wreck gets you first, or a fall, it is always going to be something. Please when you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on till someone gets there to help. No matter who you are, if you don't, someone will spend the rest of their lives missing you. Usually a lot of someones.
