Adult ADD???
 

Anyone know anythign about this? I've been seeing a psychologist for the past few weeks and he did some Copeland test on me where me my mom and husband had to answer questions and apparently I'm ADD. I've had big problems with stuff in the past, but my family doctor always said I had extreme anxiety and gave me antidepressants (prozac). I'm 22 now and in college adn still have teh same probs I did as a kid (overwhelmed all the time, cant finish anything, cant' sit still, minds always on a thousand things) and I guess it's kind of messing me up in college too cause I miss a lot and a lot of them time when I'm there and the teachers talkign even though I'm looking at her I don't hear a word they say. I get good grades, but it's truely hell trying to do an assignment, lol. Can't focus, soemtimes I can't even get through a paragraph.. I just skim the lines and NOTHING registers so I end up reading the same page for what seems like forever, lol. Anyway, anyone else been told they have ADD? What do they do for it? Prozac obviously hasnt' done anything. Thanks for any Info :biggrin:

One thing I've read is that it's a good idea to record lectures at school with a mini-tape recorder so you can go back and "hear" the things you missed when you were listening.

It's great that you're wanting to learn more about it....I think that's the best tool personally is knowledge and understanding.

p.s. I was in the lobby today waiting to see my psychiatrist and was reading a book. Some annoying kid was distracting me so bad by talking to his grandmother that I had to read the same sentence about 20 times and I still don't think I ever really "read" it or understood it. I got so frustrated that I gave up trying to read all together and instead just sat there waiting to be called.

Just a friendly question, do you have any form of dyslexia? I noticed several of your words had letters reversed. Just an observation. Just trying to cover all the bases.

My son was diagnosed with ADD and then I was told he was not and yet again I was told he was! No wonder my friggin head is spinning.

I am beginning to wonder what will happen to him if and when he has to wean himself off the Paxil.

Sometimes I truly wish we had not gone the route of medication and yet at the time there seemed to be no choice.

Bozo I'm not sure about the dyselxia... my dad has dyslexia and I've always had trouble with seeing and writing numbers and letters in the right order, but not the extend of my dad. I tend to copy things such as numbers wrong and read the wrong word cause it looks different to me. But, I'm also very impatietn adn don't know if I do that because I do'nt wait to do it properly, lol. My work and stuff is always filled with "careless" mistakes. I'll ask my doc about the dyslexia thing though cause I do tend to jumble letters, especially bs, ds, ps and anything that looks similar to something else.
THanks shutterbug for all the links!! It would be nice to have this under control as all my teachers and stuff think that I'm just a heavy slacker, and I thought I was too. I never considered ADD even though I had all the symptoms, lol. It's weird that I saw all these doctors throughout my life and no one ever said anything, just said anxiety. Anyway, thanks guys

I've never been officially diagnosed as dislexic, but I always get my b's, p's, q's, d's and g's mixed up....expecially q's and g's and b's and d's.

youngirish...i would bet your dislexic. Do you have problems with math and spelling too? That's a typicaly learning disability that comes along with ADD from what I've read and I have fought with those two subjects tooth and nail all my life.

Bozo....ADD, bipolar and borderline personality disorder are often misdiagnosed because they all have most of the same syptoms.
