9 Steps to Healing Childhood Trauma as an Adult

While making/taking time out to do some more research today, I came across an article I found to be interesting. I usually find articles from Psychology Today to be reliable and helpful, as compared to material at some other sites, some blogs, etc., that I've read.

The author is generous to share and, so, what she wrote seems to be incredibly helpful; that is, I feel, if one is to the point of being ready to practice and make use of the steps she describes. :grouphug:

I am pleased I came across this article! -- here's the link:

Thanks a lot, Anaya.

I have been thinking about seeing a therapist about some family of origin issues.

I've been thinking about it for too long to be candid.

Good luck to you in whatever you decide, SoberCAH

So, just my experience, for what it is worth (as some do say at this site, "take what you need and leave the rest"): I delayed seeking help -- one reason being -- I had the fear of something bad happening, i.e., ___________________ . Fill in the blank with examples such as "not being validated by the therapist," "not being taken seriously by the therapist," and so on. I guess I basically was cringing and fixated on the possibility of becoming "even more vulnerable," and I said forget it (for a long time).

However, since taking the plunge approximately a year ago into sessions with a counselor I carefully sought out and am sticking with (yay!), I am happy to report it has been helpful. I think I was finally ready, really ready, to start getting on with my life. :)

If you have ANY issues with memories causing you problems, please find an EMDR therapist and go. I was as skeptical as one can be, and I’m a believer. The more focused your issues are on specific memories of events the more successful you will find it. It worked for me and my wife. Please check it out.

I caught up on this forum today and came across your post.

With many thanks to your reply and the suggestion of EMDR, I did a little research via WebMD EMDR article. The technique and results sound very hopeful.

This is something I will bring up to my counselor.

Thank you, PMAZ. :tyou

I've completely ignored the idea that childhood traumas could be a serious problem in my life but it probably is. :egypt:
