Can't take head meds during recovery
During my recovery from alcohol ive been having very bad reactions to head meds .
Any ssri I have taken has gave me the worst reaction ever , even put me in A&e on an occasion .
I can't take prescription or over the counter sleeping aid as it gives me terrible symptoms the day after like depression , anxiety and a foggy drugged up feeling
Even night nurse capsules that don't contain alcohol acts the same way .
I can't drink any alcohol either as it don't feel write , it makes all the same symptoms come on.
Is this because my brain is recovering and the meds target the areas that are healing ??
Does anybody else experience this ???

I've taken sleep meds before my recovery and it was fine .
Now I can't take them the side effects are so bad , head fog, massive depression and high anxiety .
As for the ssri after a build up of citopram, not even to the target doesage I ended up in A&e , I felt so drugged up , blurred vision , shaking , could not sleep , high depression and anixty and also developed tinnitus , I still have buzzing in my head even 3 months after ..
I think I've damaged my GABA receptors and as they are healing the meds are playing havoc with them .
I'm very unstable at the moment going from happy to very moody all day .
Somtimes even wake up crying my eyes out

you mentioned that while you were taking alcohol, you didn't get the side effects from the sleep aids. The alcohol likely masked this. Just my theory, you are experiencing very high levels of anxiety and you are hypersensitive perhaps to many things.
Waking up in a panic, shaking, or stressed is a common symptom. Anxiety (for me) is accompanied by the same thing you describe: insomnia, shaking, tinnitus, irritability. I also get sweaty palms, goosebumps, dizziness and a feeling of bewilderment, "losing your mind," (or being "drugged" as you mention. Anxiety can take many forms for many people.
