The hypomania of early sobriety and getting dumb tattoos

I see this over and over again in recovery , someone who formerly had $75 but now has this big sloppy greenish splotchy thing permanently on there body.

Sometimes I see the pre-contemplation "I am going to get a tattoo! and its going to be so cool and so great ! Yippy !

Then they get the thing and people are like , oh ya man, I like it, really cool . Kind of like when you pull up in that 4cyl Toyota Camry your aunt gave you and you got the windows tinted and maybe some rims. Ya man its cool.

I am just like what the hell, your new in recovery and pasting that "thug life" crap all over yourself is kind of counterproductive don't ya think ?

I tell my kids the purplish bubbling window tint was the shiznit back in "87 and they just roll their eyes.

Memory Flashback :)

When I survived H.S. back in the day lol. My parents got me a little silver Chevette. That was in 1979 when the song by "Prince"--Little Red Corvette--was popular.

I remember my girlfriends and myself getting in this little car screaming out the window "Little Silver Chevette baby your much too fast"

( The song lyrics were little red corvette, baby your much too fast)

.......have a great and sober Friday........

Gotta get rims man rims , it will be so cool with rims. and those cool tires that pop real easy cause the sidewall is basically missing so I can dent my rims on the smallest road inperfection.

How old are you ?

22

What do you want to do when you get sober ?

Get a job that pays really well - make fat stacks $$$ .

Find a nice girl.

How is that "gansta" tattoo you want, 6 weeks into sobriety, going to help when you meet her parents or go on that job interview ?

biminiblue 10-17-2014 09:11 AM

So, how do you really feel about tattoos, SB? :lmao

I just feel bad for these kids, they are still fried in early recovery and don't think. I should plan on going into the tat removal business in 10 years.

biminiblue 10-17-2014 09:18 AM

There are a lot of bad tattoos out there.

Tat removal is big $$$. You should!

Well, those aren't really bad tattoos - although 13 seems a bit young, a lot of people make tattoos their life's work - so I don't see anything wrong with them in general.

He should put down the cigarette, though :wink3:

The smoking dude looks like he spent 40 years walking the prison yard.

Maybe its the blue shirt.

So what is really on your mind, Sbforever? Tell us about it :)

As for the thread title, I definitely felt something like hypomanic in my first couple months sober. Even posted about it on SR. No spontaneous tattoos though. Too bad, maybe! :) I am definitely neither a kid nor 100 yo, but I do like nice body art. Some people like expensive artwork in the interior of their house. Why not on the skin?

If you saw what this guy put on his arm you would get it.

Well it is his arm. I guess he is entitled to put what he wants on it.

I have a bad $65 tattoo from my drunk days. I guess this guy just has a bad one from his sober days.

I could get a cover up tat but I refer to leave it as is. Reminds me were I was and were I don't want to go again. Plus I want to save my $65 towards a real nice recovery tat. Is that okay? How long do I have to be sober to decide what is good and what is bad? Do I have to check with others first before I make a decision or is my own decision good enough?

Really? Leave them be. It ain't your arm or your cash.

Ask your sponsor I guess. That's what I was told is suggested before major life choices.
