The hypomania of early sobriety and getting dumb tattoos

I'm on a trip now, will stay in the country where I was born and raised for a few days. Guess I responded to this thread because on my way here, I just contemplated perhaps getting a tattoo here... Why here? I am sure it would be easier to find great artists in NYC. In fact, I know a couple tattoo artists there and no one here. And if I get an ink, it would be my first. But I've always wanted one (or more), had plenty of ideas over the years, even discussed it with potential tattooist, even made appointments twice... but just could never make up my mind definitively. Guess I was also afraid.
So I've been contemplating doing this now perhaps, here in my home country, because this trip has a special significance for me. But I would not do it impulsively or choose a low quality salon. We'll see. Either here or back in NY. I just feel I really want to do this now, after all these years of thinking about it...
Oh, unfortunately I have no sponsor to ask. Or anyone. So it'll be an intimate choice with myself
SB - maybe mellow up a little about this subject. There are obviously bad and regretful decisions to "alter" ourselves... But I think there are quite a few people here on SR who like tats and body art, and find them meaningful for themselves, sometimes their loved ones, etc. It's really just a kind of hobby, if you like, as many other interests. Good tastes, bad tastes, everything in between. Why not?

If you saw the kids in early recovery in the US getting these tattoos to copy the latest music entertainers on MTV who glorify crime, violence , gangs, dissing women, 'pimpin hoes' and the total nonsense of idolizing those idiots youd get what Im sayin.
The kid that inspired this thread damaged himself with that totally un thought out 'I want a tattoo' instant gratification move, his first impressions altered forever.
Come on, your sober, stop with the dumb sh*T.

I certainly get what your saying SB ... I got all mine between age 18 & 30
I'm 42 now. No regrets ..... I have all mine able to be covered by conventional clothing.
I see the same kids here in Australia
Necks, hands, wrists .... covered in stuff they think is cool now.
But I'm tipping when they get to my age ... Some lyric from a song by "Gangy Thuggy Homey" ...... ain't going to have the same meaning it did when they were younger.
I actually know a tattooist who shut up shop tattooing & opened a laser removal shop.
As a tattooist he made a living ... as a tattoo remover ..... he will be coming up behind Jay-Z & Dr. Dre pretty quick in the "bling" stakes.

That insanely stupid "Gangy Thuggy Homey" BS infected Australia too ?
No way.

Yeah it sure has.
Some kids are getting their very first tattoos just below their ears.
Almost illegible script of some really deep word like "chronic " (homage to Dr Dre.)
I reckon the word "unemployment " should be added to those ones.

SERIOUS questions are being asked about Australia’s ability to fight an Ebola outbreak as the United Nations warns the world has just 60 days to control the epidemic.

They have been around since time immemorial. We're still here.
TV has replaced "Hell fire & Brimstone" religion as the "rule by fear" tool ....far as I'm concerned, anyway.

If you haven't heard this guy before SB, I reckon his take on the world might be to your liking.

Sbforever,
I don't judge people on their body art. In fact I don't judge them on appearance at all. Sometimes I do judge them on their ability to apply the basic rules of the English language though. Heads up...you are=you're.
